General Mach Discussion / Re: CPU maxed out with R3.042.20
« on: January 13, 2009, 08:11:14 PM »
Thanks Hood

I finally got the thing working.
First I stripped Vista down to the bear min, That didn't work.
Next I Installed 3.039, every thing worked great.
Being a stubborn person I had to try 3.043 again still no pleasure.
Next I uninstalled Mach and all components of it plus deleted the directory.
Reinstalled 3.042 and it worked.
There must of been some files that weren't getting upgraded,  because the paths in the tool path window look a lot nicer.
It does take about 4 min longer to generate the tool path than 3.039. 4 min 11 sec compared to 46 sec.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Barry

I don't know what direction to take now?
It just don't make sense that R3.039 works fine and the newer versions don't.
I'll have to do some more testing.
Both of the PC's have AMD processors, 1 dual core and 1 quad.
I'll try and strip Vista down to bare bones tonight and see if that helps.

Well Guys

I have received my Smooth Stepper, and it did not help maters.
If I load a normal size file, no problems.
Large files still make mach sluggish, press a jog key and it hesitates then jogs about .5"
Has no one tried the large file I posted to see if they're system does the same?

This makes Mach useless for large Litho's and 3D carving with lots of detail.
I know I can go back to R3.039 and parallel port, but that defeats the purpose of the smooth stepper and updated versions of Mach.

Thanks Barry

If anyone is interested to try a large file, here a link to the one I'm testing with.
You will need DSL or Cable, the file is over 50 meg. 1,764,000 lines of code.
Its a Lithopane of an old building in my home town.

Just right click and save.

I have tried R3.43 also same problem.
I do have some Macros running, but it still same problem on the machine running Vista and no Macros.
It seems like the problem follows when the driver changed, cause R3.042 want run with the R3.039 driver.

Thanks Barry

PS: I'm not running the Smooth Stepper yet just parallel port. Hoping this disappears  when the Smooth Stepper arrives Mon or Tues.

Hi all

Have been using Mach for several years now.
I have recently built a router table, trying to get the bugs out.
Right now I have it running off the parallel port with PC off my Mill.
I upgraded Mach to R3.042.020, because I have a SmoothStepper coming.
With this release when I load a Large file from Photo VCarve  the CPU goes to 100%.
You try to jog and it hesitates and then goes farther than expected.
Get Driver Watchdog Triggered Error.
You can run the code and the usage goes down to normal and runs smooth.
Have tried it on XP Pro and Vista same thing.

I can down grade to R3.039 and every thing works normal even a file with 1.5 million lines.
Jogging returns to normal and CPU usage is normal.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior?

Thanks Barry
