Is that the only one?
A little expensive????

General Mach Discussion / Mach3 and external motion controller
« on: September 03, 2014, 10:28:48 AM »
Are there any external motion controllers available that do not display the feedhold / feed override lag.
Just sent my uc100 back for a refund due to a 2.5sec delay after pressing feedhold or feed override buttons. :(
I know this is because of the communication buffer length emptying.
So is there anything else that does not display this problem??

You should really mention it to Balezs or support at CNCDrive.
Because i think if they made the data buffer adjustable in size, you could lower the size of the buffer to suit the speed of your computer, without starving the motion controller of data.
Some of the other manufacturers have already gone up this route.
And i know cncdrive have done this in there own software UCCNC,they just have not done it in the mach3 plugin.
So the Feedhold and override would become much more responsive.
The more people that complain, the more they may take this complaint seriously.

Yes i fully agree,The feedhold Delay is also a very poor implementation.
Are there any other Motion controllers too choose from that do not display this problem or that maybe have an adjustable data buffer to lessen the delay?
I am not sure i want to spend another $200 on mach4 after just buying this and finding it is not suitable or fit for purpose >:D

From what i can gather it is not the motion controller it is the way Mach3 interacts with the motion controller,(so i am told by the developer of the uc100) :(
It really is a poor setup >:D

After a great deal of work i finally got my thin client working with Mach3 and the UC100 motion controller from CNCDRIVE.COM.
Works great up to a point.
The feedrate and feed override lags so much that i find mach3 unusable.(approx 2 sec delay) :'(
It has to empty it's 1.5sec buffer ????????
I really think if i had this information in front of me before i started,i would not have gone up this route.
I am very suprised there has been no mention of this on the forum in the past.
By the time the feedrate drops it is too late at 3000mm/min and crunch.
Very dismayed. >:D

Hi guys

Found this little gem after speaking to ART and John Prentice and doing my own little search.

http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/geckodrive/message/10642

This is exactly what my drive is displaying in that little engraving program.
I am sure a few people would be intersted in this that has bought any drive with the G901 in it.
I just don't understand why this information has not been widely available.
Needless to say i have ordered some opto couplers to replace the G901.

Chatoticone

Are they stepper motors you are using, are you using microsteps, did you use cv on?
I know this is not lack of power and def not noise as the program runs no problem without losing steps if i turn cv off.
Does microstepping affect cv?
If i went x5 on the gecko's would it help or hinder the problem?
Any input is appreciated.

Oh dear
Thanks for running the tests guys.
The only thing that is common to my machine and my friends machine are Gecko 210's,should they work in microstep mode x10 or can this cause problems?
