General Mach Discussion / feed & plunge rates for Aluminum
« on: May 24, 2006, 07:55:12 AM »
Hey guys, Finally got all my problems with the shopmaster and BobCad software corrected and now ready to start milling. I checked in my machinists ready reference book for the proper feed and speed rates for milling aluminum. I'm using a .375 flat milling bit and want to do some surfacing, taking only .0625 depth of cuts. In the bobCad they have F20 for feed rate and F15 for plunge rate. Not quite sure what that means???? the refernece book say for 1/4 bit and 1/4 cut the feed rate should be .005-.020 and the speed at 250. that seems very slow for turning speed. Anyone out there help me.

814-243-1673 or reply here.
thanks

becikeja,
make sure you load the Mach III program and then deleate the two programs. DO NOT DELEATE THEM FROM THE CD ROM. Wanted to make that clear.

becikeja,
Did you purchase the tri-power? It comes with the Mach III post processor CD, which you should load onto your computer. One mistake I made was to not deleate the Mill3.xml and Turn3.xml file in the Mach III software. Open your Mach III program under the windows explorer and find these two file and deleate them, then make sure you copy these two files from your Mach III CD over into the Mach III file on your computer. If you purchased the Tri power make sure you sheck out the Z axis spindle movment. Mine was very hard to move and actully jambed bending the o-ring bracket on the bottom. If you have this problem you should call john at Shopmaster and he can lead you thru the fix.

There is no such thing as a easy learning of BobCad. I purchased the video training CD'S and they did help somewhat, but I found that trail and error is the only way I could even get close to understanding BobCad and I'm still along way from knowing it.

Brian,

I know the problem is not in the g-code, because I had BobCad check it and it runs fine for them. I was reading last night and found under CNC Desk that the best config to use is absolute not incremental. Dan at Camtronics had me set the distance mode to absolute and the IJ mode to Incremental. Not sure what IJ Mode is. Need to do some more reading.

General Mach Discussion / Newbee w/Unknown problem

 ???
Here's my setup: Tri-power CNC with Mach III and BobCad/Cam software. I running BobCad version 20.7 and have completed my drawings and generated the G-Code. I then save that file and import to Mach III. I've checked the code and it exaclty the same as the code generated in BobCad. I spoke with Dan at Camtronics and corrected some setup errors do the configuration should be right in Mach III. When I run the G-code in simulation on the BobCad it does exactly what I want and how I want it, however when I dry run the program thru Mach III it doesn't run the program like run in BobCad. I recently downloaded the newer version .7 from my installed v20.6 and now with the problems noted above I can't even open BobCad at all. While I'm sure I can correct the activation by installing my old version of BobCad I'm wondering if anyone out there has experienced this code problem. I've had BobCad support check the code and its good, so why doesn't Mach III run it like its written?????
