dspMC/IP Motion Controller / Backlash Settings
« on: June 30, 2017, 01:28:01 AM »
I am trying to use the backlash settings on my system: Mach3, Stepper motors with encoders on motors.
Read through the manual and have tried different settings but don't change the back lash.  I do notice every time I hit the reset button after a E-stop the motor moves about 0.015mm which is less than the back lash setting entered.
Has anyone got the back lash to work?  I am thinking it is for servo motors only.

The probe settings on the DSPMC plugin configuration are for Dual Cycle probing only .  They don't have any effect in Single Cycle probing.

I have a dspmc controller on my big Lagun knee mill, and used the MSM screen for a couple of years. Never set-up the probing but have read lots about it on the MSM forum. It has undergone quite a few upgrades, and is now very robust, and also accepts a probe and a touch plate in the same setup. Dave Bagby is very dedicated to answering any questions by MSM users, and making sure the problems are solved. Probing requires a lot of patience to get through the learning curve. MSM has many videos explaining the probing functions.
Your MSM questions should be directed to the Calypso website.

John,

Thanks for the reply.  I have communicated with Dave abd he has been a big help.  Problem is that he has not tried MSM with a DSPMC (or Hicon).  There are a few controllers that are not compatible with his probing due to not implementing the Mach3 standard parallel port.  For example two controllers that are not compatible; Ajax, CSMIO/IP-6.
I was hoping to find someone that has had success with the probing routines on DSPMC.  I really like the MSM screen set.

I don't think there is any other way than 3rd party.  A PLC with analog input and MODBUS to Mach4 is probably the easiest.
Automation Direct (automationdirect.com) sells the Click PLC which has a model with 2 analog inputs and 4 inputs, 4 outputs for $129.  This input is 0-5V.  They have a 4 channel analog input module that is 0-10V for $89.  If you went with the analog input module then you could get a PLC unit with just digital I/O for cheaper.  If you buy the Click PLC and want RS-485 be aware that some of the models don't have the RS-485 feature.
From there the price goes up.  Hard to find a decent, inexpensive 0-10V input.  Lots of 0-3.3V or 0-5V.

What resolution (how many bits do you need)?  How many channels?

Has anyone tried using the DSPMC with Mach Standard Mill screen set from Calypso Ventures?
If anyone has tried the screen set have you had any problems with the probing routines?

The update you sent fixed the problem.

dspMC/IP Motion Controller / DSPMC and Mach4 Upgrade
« on: March 13, 2015, 11:46:30 AM »
Thinking of changing over to Mach4 but am a little worried that the learning curve for the LUA scripts and other features that aren't completed yet.   Can you switch between Mach4 and Mach3 without having to flash the device?

Is anyone using the DSPMC with Mach4?  Any problems?  Is the performance much better?  Should I stick top Mach3 until Mach4 is closer to 100% and better documented?
