Feature Requests / Re: steps per unit calculator NEEDS FIXING.
« on: July 13, 2020, 04:30:36 PM »
@tweakie

I followed the entire procedure provided on the mach4 video. Only I switched my vernier from millimeters to inches to use the plugin correctly because it only works in IMPERIAL NOT ("UNITS" pfff what ever that means).

My machine "is" and setup in metric. The step calculations are correct and measure out correctly in metric. BUT the plugin only works in IMPERIAL. (so I had to switch to imperial measuring on my verniers as per my last post).

I had to backward calculate off the imperial measurements I had to provide to the plugin so that I may get the correct steps per distance plus.

So... as per my original post. Steps per unit calculator NEEDS FIXING!! I don't care if they change the words "units" to the Inches {because that is what it actually measures} or to actually program the damn plugin to have a toggle for Imperial/metric BUT IT ACTUALLY HAS TO SPECIFY THE UNIT OF MEASURE.

I am not thinking of me here. I have already lost a day trying to figure out why I am getting all sorts of random measurements when trying to setup my mill.

I want to bring positive change to this program and to save some one else the same headache.

@ tweakie

Apparently I just make stuff up... did you try it ??  Feel free to go ahead and change your machine settings to metric and use the plugin. Friendly bet that it does not change to metric units!! (so why did the UI programmer put "units" when it is specifically imperial all the time and create confusion).

There are several different user interface screens in mach4 that have the exact same issue "where (UNIT's) is specified" and it only works in imperial not metric settings.

Here is how I went about things: Instead of trying to crash / break my dial gauges; I bolted down a drill vice and clamped one jaw of my digital verniers and extended out 100mm (3") in the direction of the right hand rule.

From there I used the plug in and when it came to the "move distance UNIT/S" I put in 1. Press incremental move and wouldn't you know it... with one press of a button to change measurement from metric to imperial on my verniers and behold the measurement was closer to an inch then a cm. My machine is configured to metric. (rolling eyes loudly).

So... am I wasting my time here or should this actually be taken as a serious issue for the developers to remedy? Did I post in the wrong place? where should I have posted or should I have followed a procedure that I have missed?!

And your right tweakie... I will do my best from now on to keep my frustration away from those with good intention but no idea.

Mach4 / wizard / select wizard / steps per unit calculator basic /

"Move distance unit/s" {please specify what these units are !!! Inch or MM or make it select-able for calculation. That is all I am asking for a feature request}

I would also like to add to ZASto and joeadverage comments by saying that if mach3 isn't supported for feature requests and the window does not exist in mach3; would you think for a moment some one is talking about a version that is supported?! and that some one who forked out decent dollars is actually trying to contribute to user functionality especially looking at this from new users perspective.

I really do not find your comments amusing or helpful ZASto!! I am here because I am clearly having issues with MACH4 and you would know this joeadverage because you have commented on my previous post (even then you failed to understand what I originally posted about).

I bought MACH4 because I was expecting a superior machine management tool supported by a serious company with experienced users.

So far I have found better support and user ability from using GRBL / UGS and an ArduinoMEGA2560 AND ITS FREE! (I upgraded to mach4 so I may use additional axes / functionality and tool management)

At this point in time I am very disappointed with mach4 and feel like I am using a loosely tied together polished turd.

Thank you for all your help tweakie.cnc

OK... guys think about this one for a moment.

Goto WIZARDS and scroll down to "steps per unit calculator basic".

There is massive issue with this wizard regarding "developer verse user" outlook on how to use this wizard.

So... think about the issue I am having here. I am from Australia. We use metric, not the American imperial that is the base standard for this software.

I am confronted with "MOVE DISTANCE UNITS". Welcome to a repeating headache I am having with this software (lazy UI programmers). Are those the units, the units I have specified in my profile settings and inherited into the wizard ?!? or is this software still just calculating an American Imperial default of one inch as per the instructional video? (if it is the later then why isnt units specified >.< )

What I am suggesting to do is make the calculator able to specific to the unit of measurement and take the guessing out.

Thank you for reading.

Moderator please this delete post.

Solution has been found and I would like to start with a fresh post and provide a clean post with the solution to the issue I was having.

Sorry to be a pain... and I know your trying to help but... I have already covered in the initial posts the fact that I have "Read the manual up to the point I got stuck and followed ALL OF the instructions".

I have already stated I have installed the correct files into both the profile and plug in folders and done a software and hardware reset.

I am genuinely not trying to waste your time. In fact I thought I made everything every easy to understand :-(

The images you have posted show nothing in my situation. Hence the problem.

I will post pics of my own so you can see the issues I am having first hand.
