Mach SDK plugin questions and answers. / Re: PLUG IN WRITERS
« on: November 20, 2009, 04:22:16 AM »
has anyone looked at a mach3 driver for the mesa cards , softdmc ? , if not i'll look into it , seems a good range of options from pci to usb

thought i'd ask before reinventing the proverbial wheel  :D

post a link to your stepper motor and driver boards or pdf's etc makes it easy for people to check for you

confirm that your stepper driver works first , connect stepper power supply and  take the direction pin directly to 0v , and by manualy taking the step pin to 0v ( or 5v depending on your drive logic ) you should see a small movement i.e step each time you touch the wire , this will confirm that at least your motors are working .(sticking a peice of tape on the shaft like a flag makes it easier to see movement ,  then you can work back through your breakout board doing the same at the parrell port connector , will prove your electronics

Tangent Corner / Re: "Sealing" a 5C Collet
« on: February 05, 2009, 05:07:23 PM »
i usualy direct a fixed jet of coolant ,( i made a wide angle nozzle out of some tin plate, to slip over the origional nozzle ) at 90 deg across the collet as close to the collet as i can get , if anything the jet is angled forwards slightly  , so the flow pushes any swarf away from the 5c face does the trick for me .

flow pressure is quite high too

SmoothStepper USB / Re: SS DISCONNECT SAFETY CONCERNS
« on: December 10, 2008, 03:23:08 AM »
you can't preach too much safety ! ,

one rule NEVER Trust software , and alway have safety circuits ( and ones that work and are tested from time to time ).
and yes i have seen a person seriously injured , through a machine , it changes your perspective very quickly .

congrats for finding a problem , and letting everyone know , safety should always be top of the list .

i'd go along with Hood ,
unfortunately experience has shown me , it's better to redraw , although a scanned image for sheet parts does help , using scan2cad applications , the time it takes to scan and then check etc , i find it quicker now just to redraw it , and just bite the bullet on the time issue .

shout if you need any help etc

servo motors are usually adjusted from the servo drive amplifiers either by their own software setup , or presets etc , then adjust mach3 to suit the drive amplifiers

you say when the compressor kicks in , your  lights dim
well theirs your clue , on top of that make sure you have suppressors fitted to the motor on the compressor , you may find the motor is requiring attention or a service too

it looks as if your main power line or internal wiring to the compressor and or other parts of the shop is not able to offer sufficent current for the demands or your cable cross section is not large enough so your voltage drops , the voltage drops and more sensitive equipment in the shop picks it up .

you could try hooking up the compressor directly to your main fuse box on it's own circuit ( use at least 4mm2 ) cable

no not had any issues over it catching as you say , however the hoop (4mm dia ) around the nozzle is slightly bow shaped to help in that case and the hoop is spring loaded with a light weight spring just enough to keep the LVDT touching at the rear ( mounted inside the tube mounting ) , i think you can see it but it may not be obvious , i have had thoughts of making it more of a bowl or dish shape

i'd certianly be game to look at capacitive sensors and see if we can come up with a better solution

works fine on my 600w CO2 Laser i dont get any interference pickup etc
