I think you guys have identified part of what I have been missing.  I do not know if my BOB does 0-10v output for PWM.  I don't have any instruction for it so may need to plan on buying one that does.  The VFD manual does reference the 0-10v control so will likely do it if I had a BOB that was capable.  I was confused why my laser works fine on PWM, but as I have looked into it more the laser only needs 0-5v to work.  Now I see why the spindle PWM is different.

Will keep you posted after I get a new BOB.

Hi Craid, thanks for you quick response.

I would think PWM would be good enough, but to be honest, I have not found enough quality guidance on how to properly configure this with the VFD.  My HY manual does not even reference PWM although it does reference SPWM but I understood that this is what it is doing through the RS485.  I admit that I could be missing something in my understanding though.

Are you aware of any good info or instruction on how to make an HY work properly using PWM and an ESS?  Or what I may be missing?  I would really like to avoid buying a whole new VFD if possible.

I have been searching for a while for a clear resolution to this problem so i am hopeful that someone here can point me in the right direction.  I have an HY series Huanyang VFD and spindle that is working quite well under Mach3 using a RS-485 and the Huanyang plugin.  I am wanting to move to Mach4 and am running into issues with trying to figure out what I need to make this VFD work with Mach4, or if I am going to have to upgrade this thing.  As I understand it, the HY version does not implement adhere to the modbus standard and this is why a special plugin is required.  I have tried to configure using the Mach4 ModBus plugin and Bill Caldwell's write up on 'Connecting a VFD to Mach4 through Modbus (RS485)' with no success.  If there are devices out there that convert PWM to whatever the HY series is accepting, I am not able to identify anything.  I use the Ethernet Smoothstepper as my controller if that helps at all.  If I must upgrade in the end, what are some recommendations this group may have on what would be a good option to purchase?

Any help you all can be would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks.
