I generally don't have to much of a problem with my z axis it is Teflon coated screw with a Delron lead nut. I did a test carving at x and y at 60 ipm and z at 20 imp. I managed to get most of a 8"x8" carving at .4" depth before my machine crashed. I did a 3"x 3" carving at .25" depth at x and y 120 imp and z set at 60 ipm with no issue.  I will double check that the z axis runs smooth. Maybe one of my bearing is starting to seize up.
Thanks.

General Mach Discussion / 3D Milling problem

Hi
I have a home built cnc router. This is about the fifth or sixth table I have built it’s a solid built table. It is mostly constructed out of aluminum and steel. I use acme threaded rod 4 turn per inch double start. I am using a kelinginc motors and drivers. The computer I’m using is a old a HP work station with a 3.8 GHz processor, 2GHz ram, windows XP, and a 1 GHz video card. My machine runs easily at 200 ipm.   The problem I am having is I can’t seem to run large 3D files. Small 3D files 3”x3” work just fine, large V carve work well. What is happening when I get well in to the carving my machine will plunge the bit too deep in to the carving. Even if I slow my router down to 60 ipm I get this same type of crash. It just takes longer for it to happen.
My suspicion is that the Kelinginc drivers just are not up to the task. Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Got any ideas how to fix my next problem. When I send the machine back to the home position. In every axis it always stops at .003 . Its not that big of a deal just a little annoying.
By the way just a little warning to others. I got my self in this spot because my old reliable PC finally conked out. When I was checking the old PC out I found the processor covered in dust and cooling fan totally filled  with dust.
I had to switch to a old laptop loaded with windows 7 and use a SmoothStepper. Lap-tops and SmoothSteppers are OK and every thing. But nothing beats a good old XP desk top PC.

I don't know if this is a V carve question or a Mach3 question. When I save a g-code file with v carve I cant get it to send directly to my Mach3.   I can retrieve the file and cut it, this is just a extra step.  any help?

Thanks in advance
Chris

Hi
I see several people have downloaded some of my files. I hope you have made good use of them. Please give me some input, did the g code files work with your machine, was the dxf file of any use, that kind of thing.
If I find the files useful to cnc hobbyist I will post more of my artwork in the form of g code and dxf files. Please let me know.

Thanks again for everyone help. It was my DRO for my xyz axis I was referring to. It turns out the problem was just a dumb mistake on my part. Some how I had changed the post processor setting in my Vcarve program from mach3 inch to mach3 mm. I'm still scratching my head on how that happened. The computer is dedicated to this machine and has been set up and running correctly for a long time. I cant think of any reason I would have changed the set up. I would ever have solved this issue with out your help.
