Mach4 General Discussion / Re: mach4 turn for dummies
« on: December 26, 2021, 06:10:40 AM »
Thanks Gebe,
This is really the sort of help I need. I am isolating from my family as I have a very bad cold and do not want to ruin their Christmas. So I have had the time to research this all.
You have shown me a clear direction an I must thank you for replying in the middle of your Christmas.
Best regards Mick.

Thanks for your reply. I have researched the pokeys 57e and it all looks good, not that I could judge. I have also looked at encoders. I can find lots of cheap encoders on ebay. Is it possible for you to tell me what Spec I need and do I need an interface/controller between this and the P57/PC?
Thanks for your help.
Mick

Mach4 General Discussion / mach4 turn for dummies
« on: December 22, 2021, 12:35:31 PM »
Hi all,
I am not trying to be rude, this is a genuine question. I have owned twelve CNC lathes and mills in the past. I have retired now and have converted a small Denford Orac CNC lathe to stepper drives and have done quite a few little jobs quite successfully. I have been using Mach3 demo. I am now looking to buy a licence and be able to do small screw cutting.
My question is has Mach4 turn screw cutting function been sorted. and I am not a PC nut, could it be installed and set up by someone who is more interested in turning than playing computers. and what else in the way of add-ons would I need please.

Hi all,
I have just installed another old XP pc to drive my Denford Orac lathe. I am still on the demo version. After installing the new PC i can only seem to jog with the incremental button lit, and only moves the incremental distance or rapid with the shift button pressed.
Before I could jog with just the JOG button lit and could jog as far as I wanted.
What should I enable/disable to get back normal jog control please.
Mick.

General Mach Discussion / loss of jogging control

Help please,
I have started to use the denford orac lathe that I have converted to stepper drives with CNC4u drives.
I have run a few small programs using the free download for Mach3. I will buy a licence when I have ironed out a couple of small bugs with the lathe.
Today I have run two very small programs with no problem until now. I was changing to the second program and suddenly the manual jog failed to respond. at first the rapid/shift jog failed to respond, only slow jog, now totally frozen.
I can run the first program with not problems. and in manual mode the Jog light is lit and if I press incremental jog, the machine jogs the increments in any direction.
I have tried another keyboard and no change.
I am not a PC head so simple answers would be appreciated.

Hi, I am looking at buying a license for mach3 turn. I have seen the full price listings on ebay, and there are a couple of much cheaper offers. SUZJAKO and EURO35. are these legit systems that will be licensed and supported by artsoft. I cannot afford to waste money or time.
Can anyone advise please.

Hi Rich,
I have spent half an hour going through your "threading on the lathe" document, WOW. I was expecting a couple of one liners. Wrong.
You have obviously spent many hours on this article and have covered it big style.
When I am ready I will buy a license and try and do justice to your work. Thanks.

Hi Rich,
Thanks for responding. Do you have any advice as how I should proceed. Any tips regarding settings, pins, outputs, inputs etc would be greatly appreciated.
Mick.

General Mach Discussion / threading?

Hi, I know this has been asked many times before, but hopefully someone has cracked the problem.
I am not a PC nut, just a user. Before retirement I owned 5 cnc lathes from american ultra precision lathes up to Dean Smith & Grace cnc 50 lathe, Plus 7 24 station tool changing machining centers.
So since retiring I have been given a Denford Orac lathe. This was dead in the electronics department, so all in the skip and install new steppers and drives from CNC4you using one of their KK01 BoB. Everything works ok on Mach3 demo apart from the output from the KK01 for the index system only puts out 3.5 volts so it will not operate the receiver side of the sensor. But I am working on this.
My question is  "Has anyone got Mach3 turn or mach4 to screw cut without having to have an electronics expert on hand."

I will buy a licence if it is worth it.
