General Mach Discussion / Re: Z-axis setup
« on: December 10, 2018, 02:58:04 PM »
Thanks for the suggestion.  Actually this is a pretty basic small machine and it doesn't have limit switches - it is quite capable running into the physical stops which isn't good for it.  I've figured that the machine is actually heading for the machine zero rather than the job zero.  It seems to run fine on jobs so I'm ignoring the problem at the moment and just not using the "go to zero" command, which previously I found really useful.

General Mach Discussion / Z-axis setup

Hi.  I've had to re-install Mach3 after an electrical storm crashed my PC.  I've got a problem with My z-axis - it is jogging OK, but after zeroing and jogging up, when I press "Go to zero" it heads in the wrong direction.  I've checked the step pin and dir pin settings, and reversing the dir low active just makes it jog in the wrong direction.  The native units are imperial, but I've re-zeroed after loading the metric g-code (which starts with the G21 input).  Where to from here?  My machine is a RomaxxCNC HS-1 - I've installed the XML provided by the manufacturer.  The settings and g-code ran fine previously.

FAQs / Changing to metric

How do I set up Mach3 to respond to metric files when my machine has been set up in inches?  The machine manufacturer supplied an XML file for the machine, using imperial units.  When I run his test programs it runs fine, but when I enter my G-code (from MeshCAM) the machine isn't responding correctly.  I added G21  to the start of my G-code sequence as instructed by the manufacturer, but that hasn't solved the problem.

Thanks Gerry.  Yeah saving it as a tap file works OK

MeshCAM generates files as *.m but Mach 3 doesn't recognize it as g-code?  Where do I go from here?

Thanks.  Could be a lot of things.  Anyway I do want to use the parallel port so I found  copy of XP and reverted to that.  All running sweet now.

Hi Craig.  The Mach 3 license came with my Romaxx CNC.  I'll stick with it for a while anyway.  I'll see how I go with downgrading to Win 7 32 bit.

Thanks for the response Mike.  I did put it in the default location.  However I see a lot of stuff online about Mach 3 not working well with Win 7 64bit, so I'll se if I can find a 32 bit OS, either Win 7 or revert to XP and try again.  Pity, it was fine on the original XP, but there was a volume adjust window in the middle of the screen I couldn't get rid of, so after hours of removing and reloading drivers I decided to go for a new OS.  I then discovered the problem was with the monitor not the PC.

I installed Mach3 on XP but had some screen errors I eventually realized were from the monitor.  I played around with Mach 3 so I know what the screens look like.  Meanwhile I upgraded to Windows 7, and reinstalled Mach 3.  Now I have a white screen with simple menus.  I also got two error messages "Unable to open Probediag.dat Error 5" and "Access to LastErrors.txt was denied".  Any ideas?
