Brains Development / Brains timer how to?
« on: November 17, 2018, 08:56:57 PM »
Hello All
I am working with a brain on a mill.

First the setup:
The purpose is to force the user to press an external button for two (2) seconds before an output (for testing - an UserLED) is switched on.
If the UserLED is already on, then the button press is ignored via a preceding AND operation between button input and the USERLED.

For testing, I have a macro pump running that turns off the USerLED after 10 sec. This simulates the approximate duration of the action that, later on, is to take place when the button is pressed.

Here's the problem:
The first time the button is pressed the delay is 2 seconds as it is supposed to be.  On subsequent button presses, however, the output immediately activates immediately.

Attached section of the brain in question.

Any help, would be appreciated!

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: New Forum!

Regarding the new forum layout -

One thing I have wanted to see for a long time, and now could contribute to is a HOW TO section. Documentation (or lack thereof in some instances) has always been big issue for me.
It would also help the newbie, a group who we all belong to at one point, to get up to speed on certain things.

MY 0.5 cents worth! :)

SmoothStepper USB / Re: smoothstepper losing communication
« on: November 07, 2018, 08:41:47 PM »
I have a USB Smooth Stepper on a Foam cutter. I had the same issue were it would loose comms. at random, but mostly when the hot wire turned on which i a pretty big surge.
Two things to try:
1) First power the SS from a 5v supply within the machine. There is a jumper on the SS that you need to move to separate the Computer 5V from the SS.
2) If #1) doens't work use an USB isolator. That's what finally did it for me.
