I don't have Mach 4 but I was wondering whether MySQL is the only database that is supported?

General Mach Discussion / Re: Mach 3 Parameters
« on: July 23, 2019, 02:41:24 AM »
Unfortunately the manual doesn't describe this either. This is the only discussion on the topic that I managed to find:

"A Mach3 machining system maintains an array of 10,320 numerical parameters. Many of
them have specific uses. The parameter which are associated with fixtures are persistent
over time. Other parameters will be undefined when Mach3 is loaded. The parameters are
preserved when the interpreter is reset. The parameters with meanings defined by Mach3
are given in figure 10.1"

It seems the persistent parameters are the ones you talk about i.e. the ones that get saved in the .xml file. However, what is the interpreter and when is it reset? Also, the list in figure 10.1 doesn't include all the variables that are available in the system nor which ones are persistent and which ones are not.

General Mach Discussion / License Updating Mach 3
« on: July 22, 2019, 09:07:24 AM »
Hi, I would like to confirm how updating Mach 3 works prior to me going to do it. How does the process work? Do I need to uninstall the current version prior to installing the new one?

This suggests you simply install over the top of the old install:

https://www.machsupport.com/software/mach3/

What happens to the license? Can I simply insert the .lic file into the newly installed Mach 3 and it'll just work or do I need an internet connection? (My CNC machine isn't connected to the internet so it would be a massive hassle to try to get the license activated).

General Mach Discussion / Mach 3 Parameters

Hi,

I was wondering whether the Mach 3 paramters are persistent? When are they lost? Are they lost once the job is complete or are they only lost upon exiting Mach 3?

General Mach Discussion / Green LEDs Around Axis Buttons
« on: July 22, 2019, 08:13:10 AM »
Hi,

I use Mach 3 under XP. What do the green LEDs around the Axis Buttons mean? From what I'm seeing, these simply indicate that the axis has been referenced home. Is that correct? If so, I'm pretty sure I have never pressed that 'Reference All Home' button and yet, one of my jobs got messed up when the axis zero'd and I lost my zero position that I was using between setups. I saw the X, Y and Z axis with the green LED box around them all of a sudden. Is there some functionality that I'm not aware of that caused this? Perhaps a G-Code or something?

General Mach Discussion / Re: Mill-Turn

Well after doing more research, I realized I was getting ahead of myself. It seems there's a reason why lathes are two axis predominantly and Mills are three. For low quantity hobby production, pretty much everything can be made with just these tools, just needs multiple setups.

Thanks will look in that direction.

I had a read of the Mach 3 Turn manual - well, most of it and did a bit more research into lathes so a little bit more clued in now.

I don't see any mention in the manual on how to work with additional axis other than X and Z. DROs seem to only exist for these two. Where can I find some info on adding additional axis?

From my research up to this point, it seems that all I most likely will need, is a 3 axis lathe.
