Will either Mach3 or 4 run on a Surface Pro 3 running Windows 10?

If so will it run sufficiently well enough?

I spent the last 16 hours playing with my new ESS and I finally have it running nicely. It is definitely not "plug-n-play", but what cnc gizmo is. I had to download the "configurator" and I turned my firewall off. Check out the troubleshooting guide. I was scratching my head and my rear for a couple of hours and had to turn everything on and off about a hundred times, but eventually it came up and seems to work well.

Has this question been answered?  With Mach and a simple spindle it seems the (single) index pulse is the best way to go.

Generally port 1 is used to output step and direction signals to pins 2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8,9 if you have 4 axis.  Probably you have port 1 pin 2 for axis 1 step and port 1 pin 3 for axis 1 direction, port 1 pin 4 for axis 2 step and port 1 pin 5 for axis 2 direction, port 1 pin 6 for axis 3 step and port 1 pin 7 for axis 3 direction.  (although these can be reversed, ie pin 2=dir & pin 3=step)

If you can verify any of this by visual check first, do it.

Start with one axis.  Set up axis one first and check with a DVM for a high (+4-5V) or a low (0-.5V) at pin 3, axis 1 direction signal.  Change directions in Mach by jogging and verify signal changes.  Then try to get your first axis moving, you may have to change logic levels from "positive" logic to "negative" logic to get the correct direction, try to run your step signals with negative logic to minimize current loss.

Once you have movement tune the motors and calibrate.

EVERYTHING IS DETAILED IN THE MACH2 MANUAL.  You should read through the section on getting started, it will explain all this to you.

Ahhhh. Ok... Now do you take that Amperage value and multiply it by the number of phases?

For example. If my motor is rated at 6.3A per phase and I take 2/3 of that value, gives me 4.2A per phase in Biploar parallel but the motor has two phases so do I multiply 4.2 by 2 giving me 8.4A for that one motor? Is this correct or do I just take the 4.2A as my value for the one motor?


Only one phase of each motor is energized at any time, so no, you dont need 8.4 per motor, just the 4.2A.  At least that is how I have allways understood it.

I have a Y axis running with ac servos at 600IPM, everything works perfectly, the repeatability is dead on, except it seems like I loose steps at power down which results in a descrepancy of a consistant 0.0005 inches of loss.  It is very small and not a probl;em as long as I reset the axis to its home position at startup, but it would be nice to shut it dow and be able to re-start in exactly the same position. 
In other words, when I start up, I have to jog +0.0005 inches and shut down to reboot so that I am at my prefereed machine zero.  Any idea what would cause this loss of 0.0005 in.  at shut down?  It is extremely consistant.
