General Mach Discussion / Re: KFlop and Mach 3
« on: July 23, 2013, 10:01:49 PM »
Need help I had been using Mach3 with parallel port stepper controller. I recently upgraded to a Kflop with Kstep controler. I have it tuned and  running satisfactorily, but am unable to communicate to limit/homing switches. I am able to do so external to Mach3 with a modified C program run from Kflop/Kstep. The diagnostic page in Mach3 acknowledges limit/home switch via  LEDs when the switches are pressed. Switches are connected to pins 9,10,and 11 of Kstep J33 which activates IOs 4,5,and 6 respectively on port1. Again, this is verified on diagnostic page when switches activated.

I have tried the supplied HomeMach3Kstep.C file with IOs 3,4,5 configured in. I have done this pasted into the Mach plugin ini file and alternately as the home reference file on the Mach plugin configuration page. It is this file that will home successfully under only C and only if I set all flags to 2. Doing so with run and compile will home X,Y, and Z in successive sequence. I assume I am missing some parameter or parameters. I was told it should simply be a matter of pasting files. But it is not quite that simple.

Any help will be appreciated and passed on.

I am about sis month into from-scrath 900x950 mm CNC router. Currently using a parallel port 5 axis controler with only 3 axis employed for now. I can only use at about 400 mm/min with only reasonable accuracy. Too slow for guitar building. I have motor tuning to 40 steps/mm  -- 400 mm/min and accelleration of 50. Any faster and I drop too many steps. My understanding is that I may not achieve anything faster with a parallel port system. I am considering upgrade options. Considering the HYCNC-4L vs Smoothe stepper. Would like some input before proceeding further. How much speed would I gain with the USB controller? Do I understand correctly that th Smoothe Stepper is an intermediate interface between my PC and my existing parallel controller? If so would I have any net gain vs. the HYCNC-4L?
Thanks, Tim

General Mach Discussion / LPT settings
« on: February 18, 2013, 05:37:05 PM »
I am a new user, building CNC router from scratch. My table and gantry system coming along quite well. I have a 5 axis board with steppers and drivers. The driver board calls for pinouts 2-7. However, Mach3 configuration does not allow these motor pinouts. I am running this from a Toshiba laptop. Is it possible to reconfigure system to LPT2 to satisfy this requirement or will this require gong to desktop with second printer port add-on? I do get green lights on axis driver boards when jogging, bot no motor activity. I get random motor activity on system boot-up that goes away when I load Mach3. Thanks, Tim
