 Don't own a hammer...lol

Just thought it would be a nice deep thinking project - latel late nights and lots of reading Yeknow. I endeavored a number of challenging projects in the past that took a long while but worked out until I became bored and hunted a new one.

General Mach Discussion / Chinese Cnc Plasma
« on: February 19, 2013, 01:04:16 PM »
Hi guys

I've built three plasma Cnc systems to date. The first plasma used was with thermodyme HF which gave me endless problems with noise and PC errors. Eventually got it to fire without errors. But not that reliable when working long with it. It had me despondent for a long while but learning much about grounding via net.

This last build with hypertherm pwm45 and first cut - no problem.

I wanna know - the Cnc plasma tables including their local brand plasmas - why are their products selling so well? Surely clients are having noise issues and errors, no? I've purchased a cheap plasma and a while back and without even connected to table - just firing it - caused PC errors. Because I wanna try convert a  low end plasma to work with Cnc tables - trouble free - I've read a couple of informative forums regarding various types on the market such as http://weldingweb.com/showthread.php?t=25405
And http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php?topic=20076.0

In reading these article - my understanding is if the torch is converted, it will work and work well in line with pc controls etc. or am I wrong?
I met a guy that claims he does conversions - just with a Panasonic mechanized torch and claims its successful.

Do you have or know any that has a Chinese plasma Cnc machine wihyperbole end (or unknown) brands that are successfully cutting without PC errors and stalling? What plasma are they using?

Or any that uses a converted plasma to function failure free in line with Cnc table?

For those who read this with similar problem - Port 2 sorted. I tried a different netmos driver (not the one that came with cd) and it worked.

Thx

Except now prob 2 is trying to get port 2 to work.  Currently measuring voltage at pins and pin one shows just under 4v and no change when I toggle spindle.

Need port 2 for thc or motors.

BR549 thanks for your input - you were correct in saying config in Mach not correct - I had the charge pump set as port 17 : pin 2 when it should be other way round. I'm an idiot for like 2 weeks now.

Thanks again :-)

Thanks guys for all your input. Problem found and solved with the torch switching on. Im an idiot - Silly me it was the charge pump pin and port config. I had it port 17 : pin 2 when in fact it was port 2 : pin 17.

I know I'm an idiot for 2 weeks battling with everything else and not noticing the obvious staring me in the face.

Anyway the supplier picked p the problem in 2 tick. Thanks to him and all here for their input.

The LEDs that light when I toggle spindle is the output1 and on display board of thc torch light comes on. No other on pins in diag lights

Hi

The BOB has 2 built in relays.

Re hypertherm cable - I've checked that to be sure and it's correct. In fact I discovered the wrong connection between arc ok and torch on  - thc - I got fault light and temp light flicker on plasma. When I checked Manual and contact Jim Colt for advice he sent me info which made it clear and solved the fault light issue by swapping those 2 connections around.

Yep I've put in the correct hex address - even tried the second address. I noted when I change address - the green led's in diagnostics change and the torch up and other LEDs light as if in error.

I'm wondering if the port card is not shot because when I did this first time I had the wrong connection by supplier for torch and arc ok on thc. Perhaps might have caused a problem. Could it?
I purchased a second moschip card and tried but only the other day found the erroneous connection. Haven't replaced that card since.
Is it possible the input arc ok connection and the output torch connection swapped could have cause a problem?
