Mach4 General Discussion / Is this possible
« on: August 03, 2021, 01:09:54 PM »
When I bought Mach4 I was told that with a smooth stepper I could run a mill and lathe with the same machine at the same time.  So I bought a smooth stepper.  Well U can't open two instances of mach at the same time...  So what I want to do is use a hub to connect two machines to the smooth stepper and run the mill and the lathe simultaneously.. Is it possible.   I am also struggling with getting mach to control my lathe spindle speed.  I have a soundlogic stepper controller and VFD hooked to a 3phase motor.. However I can only get 10V to the speed pin on the vfd.(full speed).  I know it worked with mach3 but I lost a hard drive and all my setup data...So I am starting over with mach4.  Mill is working great with mach4.  Thanks for any help...

 ;D Thanks Mark,

That worked after some trial and error.

General Mach Discussion / Help with tool change in mach3 turn.

Hi All
I am looking for help getting the tool change to work on my lathe.  I have a tool turret but it has to be programmed to a linear position to make it rotate.. ( Won't use degrees)  I can make it rotate to a specified position but I can't get the tool offsets to work.  Here is a code I wrote to position the tool tip at a specified point.

( THIS PART sets up tool 1 and tool 3)

G0 x3 z6

G0 A0 (rotate tool turret to pos 1)
T1 (Load tool 1)
G43 H1  (load tool 1 offsets all set to 0)

G0 x2 z0 (Touch corner of setup stock)

G0 x3 z4 ( Move Away from stock)

G0 A-7.2 (Rotate tool turret to tool 3)
T3 (Change to tool 3)
G43 H3 (Load tool 3 offsets)

G0 x2 z0  (Touch corner of tool to setup stock)

M3

Screen shots of the tool table and the tool setup screens are attached.

Thanks
Rick

Can you save your file as a .SLDDRW file first.  It has to be in the Solidworks Drawing format before I can save it as a .DXF or .DWG file.  I can try to convert it if you want to send it to me..

Based on the volume of the material left (ML) and making an assumption of the size of the material at start (MS).  Then applying the formula.....    WTF = MS-ML... and facturing in what appears to be a single flute spiral upcut end mill (EM) and the speed of the mill (RPM) factured be the feed of the tool (FR)  WTF = MS-ML/EM X RPM/FR  The final answer is WTF = 2,363,673 ???

Hi All,

I have a small hobby shop where I do wood parts for a couple of manufacturers.  I am using mach3 turn with a chinese lathe that was converted to CNC by Industrial Hobbies.
I need help with generating code for my parts.   I have solidworks and can create drawings but I don't have a way to generate code.  Can someone help me generate code for my lathe???
You can check out my shop here  www.woodworks.us.com
