Mach3 under Vista / Newbie at 3-Axis Milling
« on: October 23, 2011, 01:39:29 PM »
Hello all. I recently decided to try and move to the next step and add another axis on our EZ-Router. I have a reasonable amount of success with 2D profiling and pocketing, and came across a project that seemed an appropriate test vehicle. I was able to create a g-code from BobCAD v23 after some trial and error. The project is about 24"x32"x3"H.

I have some questions related to some issues I'm running into, and any hints on these topics would be invaluable.

- On a reasonably complex 2D profile, I'm used to running 3000 or so lines of code, but with this project it's generated around 750,000. Is this normal?

- I've repeatedly run into softlimits issues while attempting to run this code. It will begin to move to its starting position, but than triggers a 'softlimits system movement aborted' error. By running with softlimits turned off, it simply triggers a limit switch instead.

- I saw that Mach suggests running a desktop with 1gig of RAM is adequate, but should I be upgrading past this?

- Is running Mach 3 off a Vista machine inherently problematic?

Again, thanks.
