General Mach Discussion / Re: M3 / M5 not working on Hobbycnc setup.

Thank you. I knew I was probably overlooking something. Got it going.

I'm just scratching the surface learning Mach3. Reading through these posts is helping to clue me in.

General Mach Discussion / M3 / M5 not working on Hobbycnc setup.
« on: August 03, 2011, 01:52:01 PM »
I just purchased Mach3 last week for use on a XP pro computer with my old hobbycnc board. (I had it running using turbocnc, but the old w2k computer finally bit the sawdust)

I got my X Y and Z axis to work using these pins (a zip drive cable is straight through)
Axis-Step- Dir
X-2-6
Y-3-7
Z-4-8

but cannot get the M3 to start the router. My pin is 17, but cannot get it to work.

It appears my Hobbycnc board and relay are working because when I startup the computer it powers up the router for a second.
(I always turn off the router when I shut down)

Also, In the Mach3 MDI screen, when I issue a M3, the yellow"LED" by the spindle lights up but it does not go off when I issue a M5 command. Is that right?

Any help appreciated.

Hi, I am Bill Barrows.
I am an mining engineer in Eastern Kentucky. I worked as a mechanical engineer in Dayton, Ohio for 20 years. I moved back to Kentucky about 5 years ago.

While in Dayton, I built my woodworking cnc machine using a Haas VF3. It is made from aluminum and has a travel of 24x12x7. I use a Hobbycnc driver board and was running Turbocnc on a w2k computer.

After my move I stored my cnc for about 5 years and just set it back up last month. The old computer would not run so I just purchased Mach3 for a XP computer. Got it running again. (one problem so far I'll post in a separate thread). Photos of my machine and projects are on my website: wjbzone.com
