General Mach Discussion / Re: These any good?!

Cheers barry,  I am actually working on it today.  It was harder to make the machine bigger than i originally thaught i will admit.  I have just cut my first simple piece with it about 30 minutes ago.  I'm still perfecting the axis set up as it is about 4mm out at the moment, it was about 2 cm out over 20cm movement but by changing the "steps per" in motor tining i have this almost perfect.

The screws and nuts seem to be great.  The main problem i have had is attaching a rotozip to the machine.  Because its an akward shape.  And with limited tools to make a tidy bracket.  But now the machine is running i can make a tidy bracket for it.  The machine has been out of service for almost a week now but hopefully will be worth it.  I'm debaiting weather to make a 8' X 4' monster so that the sheets of material will go in whole, so that there is less waste + more profit.

Cheers all.

Okay guys, i think i have fixed the problem. (touch wood) ;D

Im not exactly sure what it was, but i'm going to give a few suggestions anyway to make me sound smart. ;)

First off i wiped the hard drive, reinstalled windows etc.  and then mach wouldnt link with my machine atall, :o even though i set it all up.  So i put mach3 onto an external drive and then loaded machmill from that,  all the settings were already there, and hey presto, machine jogged as it did before, and now the rapid speed is back to normal.

But now i'm back in square one because i need to do it again with another computer which has the same problems.  I think i might have a dodgy serial lead or even a dodgy driver, so i think i'm going to get new ones to go with my new build.  But anything is better than having another unproductive day and spending 8 and a half hours trying to fix software.

Thank you all alot for helping me! ;D  You never know I might be able to help someone someday lol. ::)

Hood, You'll have to bear with me as there is no internet on that computer so ill have to put the doc on a flash drive (finding one will be the problem)

And yes it says about 4th line down TOOL CHANGE.  Don't know why it didnt do this before.

The Velocity in motor tuning determines you Max rapid speed.
Jogging will go at full rapid speed unless you have a slow jog % set. If you do then pressing the shift key then a jog key will override the slow jog. You can see by pressing the Tab key whether you have a slow jog % set.
G1, G2 etc moves are commanded by a feedrate so if its too slow you need to command a higher feedrate, for example if you have G1X1F10 it will move to X10 at 10 units per min, if you had F100  instead it would move at 100 units per min.
The only other thing to check is that you are not using G95 mode, that is feed per rev, normally on a mill you would feed in G94, Units per minute.
Hood

The jog % is at 100% and returns 800 feedrate when jogging and rapid when it was working usually.  But now jogs at 800 and rapids at 1300..  The g code is streight from lazycam which i have used from day 1 in the same manor so wont know about the coding.  but what i have also noticed is when starting the cycle it is differant than usuall, i.e  instead of pressing it once and then the z axis moving up 1mm and then it moving on the y & x axis, i have to press it once, it moves 3 codes down (dont know what it is doing) then again and it moves up 1mm, then again to get it cycling.  Could this be the G95 code thing, if so how do i check/change it.

Sorry for all the questions i really do appreciate your time.

It isnt running good atall now.  Usually my feedrate when cutting is 500, rapids are 800, jog is also 800.  I have set it to the same as i have done before but the rapids are 1300  >:(  Now i cant cut anything because the cutting feedrate is too slow and if i speed it up then the rapid is too fast causing it to stall.

Anybody know what i can do just to slow the rapid rates down ??? ?

O.K Cheers Hood.  I have just changed the velocity down from 800 to 400.  But the funny thing is that they have been set at 800 for 2 months now ???  But it seens to be runnig like it was before when cutting.  And now the jog is alot slower than before.  So the only thing that was wrong is that the rapids moving too fast.

I think i know what is causing it,  The rapids between where it has to cut are way too fast, therefor when the axis tries to move, the motors dont have the torque or power to move them causing it to stall,  which is 1300 units.

Any idea how i change the rapids speed.  My cutting speed is 400 units at the moment then when it rapid moves it jumps to 1300. So i need to slow that down but i dont know how?  Any help

Put mach onto a new computer at 7.oo this morning and still dont have it running properly now 12.42  :o

I have set it up like the manual says and like i have doen it several times before.  The problem i am having is that it all moves fine but when the z axis moves up and then moves the y axis to go to a differant place it moves way too fast and stalls the motors so then when the z drops down again it is in the wrong place.  This happens with the x axis aswel. It isnt the usual sound when the motors stall out its a much higher pitch sound as if the motor is moving faster than normal when they stall.

When jogging the machine at 800 units they all move fine so know its not the machine,  so it must be some setting in mach that is messing it up.

Any help???

How do i set these uo to run with my motors, any help will be greatly appreciated!

My steppers say on the back 1.8 degrees / step,  so i worked it out to be 200 steps fer full rev.
But i have no idea how to set them up with the screws.  As far as i can tell i have to times 200 X something and then devide it by something else  ???

the screw has a lead of 5mm, so does this meen that every turn it moves 5mm?

Also i dont know if my drivers are set to any kind of microsttep, how can i find this out?

And another quick Q',  if i push the axis of my machine it moves about 1mm on the shaft,  does this meen that there is no anti backlash nuts in place.  It dosn't cause any problems i just wanted to know.

Cheers to all

Yeah i know what you meen, i purchased my old machine from china 2 months ago, and i have to say it has been excellent.  I have had a problem with the router part but it turned out to be an easy fix.

I have ordered them anyway, total of about £300.00 for 3 threaded rods with antibacklash,  and supported guide rails for 3 axis with pillow blocks.  Seems an excellent price.  Cant wait to get started building it now  :)

Overall the new machine is going to cost around £500.00 as i am taking parts from my old machine i.e driver, steppers, couplers.  Bargain considering my old smaller machine payed for its-self within the first 2 weeks.

I'll report back the quality of them when they arrive just incase anybody else needs this kind of thing.
