General Mach Discussion / Re: Hood's 12 tool tool changer

Thanks Hood.   I thought I had read everything related to your turret but I never found all that info in the BT30 thread.

I recently got a lathe almost the same as the one Hood made the turret for.    I would sure like to copy hoods design, its the best I have seen yet for a DIY.

Are any further details on the turret available?    I wonder about what was used for main shaft bearings that allowed the shaft to both rotate and slide for unlocking.   Details on how the coolant passages were done is also a mystery.

Hood,  any chance you still have some of this info?    I would sure like to make my own !

Thanks much!
George

Auto resize worked for me with a 12" screen.

Brian has fixed some of the long standing lathe issues.   All is not done yet but much is.   Softlimits now work, toolpath display had some bugs fixed, G53 has been fixed, some tweaks to tool offsets and some other things that don't come right to mind.   Suffice it to say mach lathe is getting some needed attention.

The fixes I mention are in progress, some complete some almost done.  They are not in the development version yet,  except softlimits, that is in the current version.

I am tickled.

I have seen various macro's people wrote as a work-around including the ones you linked.    I researched the G83.1 history and it was fixed and working back around 2005 but has quit sometime thereafter.    I have been working the last few days with Brian and can report that G83 and G83.1 now are fixed and working with the standard m1083 macro.

It will probably take a little time for these changes to be released in the development version BUT they are on their way and do work.   Other things have been fixed in lathe recently also and yet other things are being worked on.    Mach lathe is a much better product than it was just a couple weeks ago.

General Mach Discussion / Lathe G83/M1083

Been experimenting and reading up on lathe G83 and G83.1 peck cycle. I believe
it was changed a few years back to also support G83.1 using a parameter C in the
command.

These two lines behave exactly the same, why? C should change things
according to the note in the M1083 macro file. (further down in the M1083 file
it refers to C as "taper" which is confusing!!!)

G83 X0 Z-1.0 Q.15 R.2 C0 F.002
G83 X0 Z-1.0 Q.15 R.2 C1 F.002

both enter at the commanded feedrate (.002) all the way in and retract fully
each peck. If I read it right, that is what the C parameter should change.

I would like to either not retract fully each peck OR after a full retract,
rapid in to just above the last peck depth.

Doing it the way it works now gets it done BUT is slow as hell.

Hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction.
Thanks,
George

Works in progress / Re: THE LATHE PROJECT - 2011

Scott, any chance of restarting your lathe screen efforts?   daOne has not been heard from in nearly two months and appears to have stopped work on his set.   I liked yours better anyways and was very disappointed to see it end.  I think yours fit hobbiest use better. I am just finishing retrofitting a 14x40 chicom lathe and would love to have your screenset.   Hope you consider it.

Been nearly two months since any news,  there was a reference to talks with machmotion, so maybe he decided to sell the screenset to them???

Works in progress / Re: All in one lathe screen (Beta)

I have been using this screenset and love it.   I would however like to change a few buttons/led's that I do not need or use for something on my wish list.   Attempts to make these changes have not had good success, apparently the methods used are much different than other screensets I have modified with either screen4 or Klaus's program.

Anyone done this, any tips that would help?   Its so close to perfect for my uses I would hate to have to find another screenset alternative.

Dale I mentioned the oversize screen to Ron as well, the way to get round it at the moment is to use Auto Enlarge option on Machs General Config page but personally I would prefer the screenset for the wizard to be slightly resized to fit properly.

This still needs to be fixed.  I ran into the same issue with my laptop on 1024x768 and spent a couple hours chasing my tail before I came here and confrimed it is a bug.   I also noticed the screen layout needs some tweaking, some text boxes cut off the end of the text, some screen elements overlap others slightly etc.   I have not yet actually tried the wizards yet, just loaded and looked around.
