General Mach Discussion / Re: Deos Mach3 send pulses to controller?
« on: March 16, 2015, 11:19:36 AM »
No I have power to the motors. I thought maybe I needed to connect a enable pin so I connected pin 1 on one board to pin 1 on the other (parallel port) but that didn't work. This is why I was trying to understand every pin that mach uses on the parallel port. Thanks for your help especially because its more of a electronic problem and not mach per se. Art

I will explain. I had a Hobby CNC 4 axis board that went Kaput. They no longer sell a 4 axis board so I bought 2 - 3 axis boards. I put one together and it works fine with all three axis. So I put the second board together with only the x axis driver chip in to act as the A axis and jumpered pin 2 and 3 of this board to pins 8 and 9 on the first boards serial port. but the fourth axis motor has power but it is not moving. So I wondered if there was another signal I had to get from the second board to the parallel port which is suppose to act as the A axis. Thanks Art

Does the driver in mach3 send clock signal to my controller board? If so what pin on the parallel is it sending it to. Thanks Art

If you want mm as default then it is best to set it up as that from the Config menu. You will however have to redo the motor tuning  steps per unit etc. to mm if you have them set in inches at the moment.
If however you want to have your machine set as imperial (Inch) for motor tuning and tooltables, offsets etc but want to run metric code then just have a G21 at the start of your code or you could put G21 in the initialisation string (Config menu then General Config)

So really it all boils down to what you will be running most of the time and what you want your offsets etc in, mm or inch.

Hood

Does this mean on a Imperial machine all you have to do is a G21 and Mach will do all the metric conversion for you? Or should I say Mach will run the metric code in metric units even though my machine is set for Imperial units? Thanks again Art  :D

I increased my acceleration from 50 to 62 and machine now runs the Heart quickly. I have to search the forum to see how to find xml . But it is the heart program in the Mach 3 gcode file folder. I guess I don't understand the relationship between Velocity and Acceleration. Thank you very much Art

I have my velocity set to 400 ipm, When I jog all axis move  very fast. But when I run the Heart program it runs in slow motion. It takes a half hour to complete. I am definitely a Newbie and quite possibly a Idiot. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Art
