General Mach Discussion / Sudden Misbehaving
« on: April 15, 2008, 12:19:35 PM »
Hey everyone.

I just recently got my first machine built and working. I had everything configured and set up with the machine moving and taking commands well from mach3 all that was left was a little tuning to get the acceleration and velocity dialed in. I could get good speeds up to about 30in/min and attributed that to needing to tweak and tune the machine.

Yesterday when I tried using the machine and getting some adjustment done, I fired it up and went to jog the machine and nothing...I thought I broke something so I tried again and noticed that it did actually do something, but it was sending only 1 pulse every 4-5 seconds and it was gradually getting a little faster as I held it longer and the acceleration caught up to full speed. I haven't adjusted anything from the last working configuration before it started doing this.

I can rule out defects with the router, my driver board, and the power supply because the router works well and has good speeds while using EMC under linux on the same computer. Any suggestions, I am new to mach and don't know if there is any other pertinent information i left out.

Thank you  ???

Chip,

That is exactly what I needed...but...I followed directions all the way up through the step to open the .dxf file in lazycam.

I clicked File -> Open DXF -> test.dxf
No errors or anything however when it went back to the lazycam screen, there was still just a blank page staring at me. For some reason it won't import the .dxf into lazycam.

EDIT:
I just tried opening one of the .dxf files that comes with mach 3 and it worked fine...seems to just be a problem with the files that I create myself.

Well my software profile right now is this...

I am using AutoCAD 2006, LazyCAM, and Mach 3. LazyCAM and Mach3 are both the demo versions for now.

I have made a simple part in AutoCAD, when I try to import it into Lazycam, it just shows a blank page...I can't figure out why it won't import a part.

Do I need to draw the part with special layers or properties? I can't find any documentation on Lazycam online...I've tried rummaging around the Artsoft website and just can't seem to find anything.

I found the book that you are talking about. Looks like it has a lot of good info in it. I am going to order one right now and get it shipped out.

In the meantime, does anyone know of any good online tutorials to hold me over for now...I just got my machine finished and I am dying to cut something :)

Hey everyone. I can't seem to find any good tutorials for people just getting started with CNC. Plenty of stuff to make a machine and plenty of great tutorials on this website to teach you how to use mach3, but I can't find any that really detail the whole process.

I am comfortable with AutoCAD 2006 and I think i can get my way around Mach 3 ok, but I can't seem to get the hang of taking the item from one to the other.

Any suggestions, websites, guidance would be very appreciated.

Ok, checked with all grounds and getting same readings...

I am getting 3.5v on 2 of the pins...4.5 on others...and .03 on the rest beside grounds...

None are changing with or without jogging...they are all a constant voltage.

I'm getting 0.03v constant, jogging or not. I am jogging the x left and right and nothing changes. I do have a constant voltage of near 5v on pin 4 and some of the other higher pins...not on pin 2 like I should.
