Phil;

I was not initiating a discussion on what is fair or not.  All I am trying to do is get a clear understanding of the policy, and I am not getting that from any authoritative source.

I found the info on the website inconsistent and confusing, so I am looking for a clear explanation.  I am not contesting it, just want to have it clear.  I am terribly poor in guessing or reading between the lines.

Hood,

Something is wrong with the logic.

The website says "Mach3 is free for registered users."

If you have to pay to become a registered user then it is not free.

The limited version is there to download without any registration requirement.

So my interpretation is that the limited version is free for anyone, and by registering you get a full version license without a payment.  The only part missing is the way to register.

I'm lost.

The Products link on the website says "Mach3 is free for registered users."

The Downloads page says "The Downloads on this page are limited to 500 lines of Gcode until licensed. "

The Purchase page says "Artsoft Software has been developed with an active community of volunteers, testers, and helpful experts who have guided its development over a period of years. In appreciation to this community, the software is offered as a group membership. Once registered, a user is permitted to use all versions of Mach software with one license." and that "When registering, users will receive a personalized, encrypted license file via email which will unlock all versions of the software."

My email inquiry about how to register brought an email response saying "If you click on the Purchase link at www.machsupport.com, that should take you where you want to go... =)"

I can't find any place on the Purchase page that says 'Register'.   :(

The only place I found a registration possibility is on this forum, which I did.

So how does one actually register and receive a license file?

Am I grossly misinterpreting something?

General Mach Discussion / How to get started
« on: March 03, 2008, 04:33:31 PM »
I have recently inherited a Sherline 5400 series mini-mill that was converted to CNC using a Camtronics board and 3 servo-motors.  It came with a really old DOS based computer that has DESKNCRT V1.0 software installed on it.  This setup is working, however I have no documentation on it whatsoever.

My inclination is to convert the setup to a Windows based system, as parallel ports are still available on the newer motherboards.  Can I use Mach3 for this system?  What do I need to download and install?

Can you fellows possibly point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Frank
