Feature Requests / BED ERROR CORRECTION
« on: December 14, 2013, 04:16:06 AM »
Some large or home built machines need to be able to compensate for inaccuracies in the machine frame. Some motion control cards have this function - eg DeltaTau PMAC.
You already have screw mapping which is a similar function so I would assume it wouldn't be hard to implement this.
Our machines are about 12 metres long welded structures similar to a lathe. The PMAC takes care of the inaccuracies in the frame.

General Mach Discussion / Mach 3 Turn Random Movements
« on: February 22, 2010, 06:14:46 AM »
There is an issue which I suspect is a glitch in Mach 3 Turn. The X axis moves every few seconds by itself in a positive direction when the index pulse is connected. It seems to happen at the same rate no matter what the spindle speed is ( about 0.5mm every few seconds at random intervals ). If the spindle motor is running and I disconnect the index pulse the random movements stop. I originally thought it was noise from the motor or VFD but apparently not.

These are commanded moves from Mach 3 - ie the DRO on the screen moves. It seems to hold position during a cut from G Code but starts moving again during feed hold or with no G Code loaded.  I have disabled the MPGs in "Ports & Pins", and disabled the joystick plugin. These are recent additions to the machine. I have been using this machine for a couple of years every so often for hobby use and haven't noticed this fault before.

I'm using version R2.3 according to the "About Mach 3" under "Help". I haven't updated because I mainly do threading on this lathe and it does that well.

Mach SDK plugin questions and answers. / Jog Controls Dropping Out
« on: December 19, 2009, 11:50:24 PM »
I have installed the new Joystick Plugin for my Lathe ( x-z ). The X axis dropped out  after 1 try and I had to restart Mach 3 before it worked again. Also, if I change to MPG jogging, use the MPG and then change back to Continuous Jogging, the joystick won't work again until I restart Mach 3.
Sometimes I have to restart Mach 3 to get the MPG to work in the first place.
Is this a Mach 3 problem or a Windows XP problem ?
Is anyone else having this problem ?
Thanks,
Glen.

Feature Requests / Lathe feed rate fault
« on: March 13, 2009, 12:34:32 PM »
I've noticed a couple of faults with Mach3 Turn.
When screwcutting on a lathe, if the selected pitch exceeds the maximum feed rate in the motor tuning, there should be a program stop condition and error message. There should also be an error condition if there is no spindle pulse in G95 or G76. The lathe I've been using will just cut the wrong pitch if the spindle speed requires a higher feed rate than is possible. It will also run a Gcode containing screwcutting without the spindle running. This is with "use spindle feedback" applied.
It's been a while since I updated Mach3 so please forgive me if this has been fixed recently.
Regards,
Glen.

LazyCam (Beta) / Ops window won't go back
« on: September 21, 2008, 07:41:12 AM »
I accidentally moved the Ops window in Lazycam V3.00.2 and I can't get it back. I can move it around using the ctrl key & mouse but I only have the choice of a floating window or Ops using the full screen.
Thanks,
Glen.

General Mach Discussion / Urgent - Threading not real time
« on: October 25, 2007, 07:19:55 PM »
Hi, I've been threading in Mach 3 Turn ( usually with limited success ) and have finally worked out why it doesn't work properly.
The index pulse from the spindle could be missing the odd pulse every so often and this makes the true speed display jump around in a range of about 10 RPM ( between 720 & 730 RPM ). Mach 3 grabs any number between 720 & 730 and uses it for the entire cut, even with spindle speed averaging. This causes the machine to cut a different pitch at each pass, which is usually only apparent on long threads. The feed rate should be the same for every pass of the threading cycle. The RPM is calculated before the cut starts so this feature doesn't allow for RPM changes with load ( which shouldn't occur anyway ). I tried it without " use spindle feedback in sync mode " checked, but then you don't get the index pulse to start at the same spindle angle every pass.
There is no need to calculate the spindle speed between every pass unless you have constant surface speed ( RPM varies with diameter ).
Could you please take an average spindle speed and use it for the entire threading cycle ?
Thanks,
Glen.

Feature Requests / LazyCam Posting options
« on: October 20, 2007, 04:13:28 AM »
Is there a way to make LazyCam post G95 instead of G94 when posting G Code for turning ?
Is diameter mode being considered ?
Is there a way to permanently change the default Z height from 60 to 6 in Plasma Mode ?
Thanks, Glen.

LazyCam (Beta) / Lazycam image height control
« on: July 04, 2007, 09:01:36 PM »
Hi, does anyone know how to control the heights of areas or even where the Z information comes from when loading a JPG into Lazycam ? Is it anything to do with the colours or does it look for sudden changes in colour and make up a random depth to go to ? The problem I'm having is that Lazycam cuts an area deeper when it should be a raised section and is cutting the whole job at half the required thickness. It could even be halving the thickness whenever it encounters a colour change or line but I'm only guessing.
Thanks,
Glen.

LazyCam (Beta) / Lazy Cam Plasma Options
« on: February 11, 2007, 01:45:12 PM »
Hi, is it possible to call a macro in the plasma options ?
I'm using a 40 amp plasma cutter that needs to be triggered twice to start the arc.
Also, it would be great if there was somewhere to define the cutting width so it cuts to the waste side of the line.
I've tried to use tool offsets but Mach 3 shows Tool 0 in the toolpath window no matter what tool I designate.
I'm using Mach 3 Mill with the Plasma post from Lazy Cam as I've had trouble with the pin assignments in Mach 3 Plasma.
Thanks,
Glen.
