Tangent Corner / cnc and robotics

I'm a tech ed teacher and have been asked to do some work in robotics in a club after school. As I looked at it (no experience, you just get drafted) I saw allot of similarities to cnc. Has anyone done any work with robotics? How is programming done? Do they use G codes? Can Mach 3 control such a machine? Thanks, Greg Smith
