Modbus / Uncomannded motion with Homann pendant!! Please HELP!!
« on: January 29, 2009, 05:21:29 PM »
Had a serious probelm crop up today on my lathe..

I was using my Homann pendant with the ModIO interface to indicate in X on my lathe. Clicking along at .001 per click with my gage pin in hand, when suddenly the X axis takes off, smashing into the part and causing some damage. It then reversed direction and began a 3-4 inch oscillation in X at G00 speed. I hit e-stop and motion ceased, released the e-stop and it picked up right where it left off. Hit e-stop again, shut down Mach3, restarted Mach3, and it started oscillating again as soon as the splash screen closed. I then restarted Mach with a profile that does not have the pendant configured. Operation was normal including jogging with the keyboard. I ran the lathe for the rest of the day with keyboard jogging with no problems.

Any one have any idea what's going on? For reference I have G320s and Kelling servo motors.

Thanks for any and all help.

General Mach Discussion / CNC4PC breakout board led operation??
« on: January 22, 2008, 02:55:20 PM »
Ok, just checking here...

I just installed my new C1G card from CNC4PC, the leds are acting oddly. some are dimly lit, others turn on and off if I touch the board. I have nothing wired to the board other than 5V external power and my pc.

Can someone confirm the correct led behavior? As I recall on my last machine, the step led should be lit when the axis is moving, while the dir led latches between on and off based on the direction....is this correct?

I'm thinking my breakout board is bad.

Feature Requests / Nice Feature to avoid crashing new programs
« on: January 05, 2008, 02:55:56 PM »
Hi  new member...currently CNC'ing a 1340 lathe... my second project..did a X2 mill a few years ago.

My milltroincs machining center has a really nice feature for debugging new programs. In handwheel mode the program only runs when the hand wheel is being turned. The feed rate is proportional to the rate the hand wheel is turned. When the hand wheel is stopped the program pauses even if in the middle of a long move. The only command it will finish once started is rigid tapping for obvious reasons. With Mach's support of MPGs, this seems like it would be feasible. I like it better than single stepping a program, because once you hit the button, that next step completes.

Regards,

Chuck
