General Mach Discussion / Z axis not repeatable
« on: December 01, 2014, 06:29:25 PM »
I have a machine that is having a problem with the Z axis.  I am running a tool path that is generated from Aspire and it turns out to have about 85000 lines of code with almost all of them having a Z component.  When completed and returning to 0,0,0 the Z axis is off by about .070".  I have slowed the speed down to around 25 inches/minute (half of what it was) and still have the same problem.  The motors on all three axis are identical and the problem is not evident on the X and Y.  I am wondering if it is some sort of round off error on the Z axis since the Z axis has so many moves and it is a stepper system.  The post processor for Aspire produces 4 decimal places which is the same as what Mach3 has.  I ran the axis calibration and Mach3 returns a number that is not an integer.
Does the number need to be an integer?
With so many Z moves of such small increments I am thinking that it is round off error.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

General Mach Discussion / Digitize probe wizard
« on: December 22, 2008, 10:37:06 AM »
I had a quick question on the digitize wizard....

There is not an option to choose the diameter of the probe tip.

When using this wizard would you make your tip diameter really small?

Thanks!

General Mach Discussion / rotary axis turning really really slow
« on: January 13, 2008, 08:20:12 PM »
I have built and installed a 4th axis on my machine.  I have seen several posts regarding this but have not discovered a solution to my problem.
My "A" axis is set to 22.222 steps per, 10002 as the velocity and 1700 as the acceleration.

The problem is that when you are doing a move that uses one of the linear axis, say the "Y", and the "A", the feed rate may be 35 ipm or similar.  It takes forever for the rotary axis to move to the desired position based on that feedrate.  How do you deal with this big difference?

Can someone help me out?

General Mach Discussion / Griffin PowerMate
« on: December 30, 2007, 09:24:12 PM »
I just purchased one of the Griffin PowerMates.  I downloaded the plugin.  Since I am kind of new to this I have a couple of questions.  Do I need to install the PowerMate software and configure anything for Mach3?

When I press the top of the device it toggles between the available axis but nothing happens when I turn the knob.

Am I missing something?

Thanks!

General Mach Discussion / Wierd color on Settings screen
« on: December 11, 2007, 11:03:01 AM »
I installed Mach3 and on the "Settings" screen the background is green.  All the other screens are grey.

How can I change that or is my 1024.set bad?

Thanks!
