dspMC/IP Motion Controller / Backlash Settings
« on: June 30, 2017, 01:28:01 AM »
I am trying to use the backlash settings on my system: Mach3, Stepper motors with encoders on motors.
Read through the manual and have tried different settings but don't change the back lash.  I do notice every time I hit the reset button after a E-stop the motor moves about 0.015mm which is less than the back lash setting entered.
Has anyone got the back lash to work?  I am thinking it is for servo motors only.

dspMC/IP Motion Controller / DSPMC and Mach Standard Mill
« on: March 21, 2015, 01:47:48 PM »
Has anyone tried using the DSPMC with Mach Standard Mill screen set from Calypso Ventures?
If anyone has tried the screen set have you had any problems with the probing routines?

dspMC/IP Motion Controller / DSPMC and Mach4 Upgrade
« on: March 13, 2015, 11:46:30 AM »
Thinking of changing over to Mach4 but am a little worried that the learning curve for the LUA scripts and other features that aren't completed yet.   Can you switch between Mach4 and Mach3 without having to flash the device?

Is anyone using the DSPMC with Mach4?  Any problems?  Is the performance much better?  Should I stick top Mach3 until Mach4 is closer to 100% and better documented?

dspMC/IP Motion Controller / Following Error on Initialize
« on: March 08, 2015, 10:13:54 PM »
I have a 3-axis system with CUI encoders on stepper motors.  The system is configured to home to sensor then to encoder index.
The 1st time I initialize any of the axis the motor will:
1.  Home to the sensor
2.  Move back to find the index pulse
3.  Fault and give a error "ERROR following limit exceeded on axis 2.  Servo disarmed"  The error will list the correct axis that is homed (in this example axis 2)

If I hit the Reset button and home again it is fine.  Always works on the 2nd try.  I have never been able to home on the 1st try.  I have never had a problem homing after the 2nd try.
The following error  in the DSPMC/IP Status monitor always shows 0.  I am wondering if this is a real following error or something else.
Tried different debounce settings and that didn't change anything.
It is not a major problem as I can still get the machine to work I just have to home twice for each axis.

Mach4 General Discussion / Mach4 Serial Port Support
« on: March 06, 2015, 02:39:33 AM »
Is there any support in Mach4 to communicate through serial ports with non-Modbus devices?
I have Allen Bradley and Mitsubishi servo drives that use their own serial protocol.  I did not find any LUA commands for serial port functions.
Would like to use two serial ports and hopefully Mach4 has fixed the Mach3 limitation of 1 serial port.

dspMC/IP Motion Controller / Encoder on Motor Settings
« on: November 13, 2014, 01:25:49 PM »
I am adding CUI encoders to my existing installation.  Currently there are no encoders installed.  It seems that there is no input for the encoder encoder settings.  After further searching the encoder CPR must be the same as the Mach3 - Motor Tuning and Setup - Steps Per setting.
So If my current Steps Per setting = 800 then my encoder should be set to 200CPR (Encoder CPR = Steps Per divided by 4)?

Newfangled Mill Wizard / New Tool Table Save Error
« on: May 15, 2013, 03:33:31 PM »
I just installed licensed version 1.0.3.  I opened the tool table and added all the info for my tools.  Clicked the Save button and the program crashed.  This happened three time, once after rebooting the PC.
Debugger error report:

Unhandled exception at 0x01181dfa in NFS_Mill.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000200.

Work around was to rename one of the default tool tables in the Users/Wizards/Mill/ToolTable folder.

HiCON Motion Controller / HICON Evaluation
« on: December 20, 2012, 12:26:02 AM »
Is anyone using this controller?  Not much action in the forum in the last 6 months.
For anyone using it is it much different from the DSPMC controller?

dspMC/IP Motion Controller / Mach 3 Kernel Speed

Does the Mach 3 Kernel speed affect the dspMC operation?
I have mine set at 25K.

SmoothStepper USB / SmoothStepper Modbus RPM DRO conflict
« on: December 14, 2010, 04:00:33 AM »
I have a Hitachi SJ200 VFD running Modbus installed on my system with a brain to convert/send RPM to the RPM DRO.  Without SmoothStepper running I have no problems running the spindle at speed or with the read back.
When the SmoothStepper is run I can start and stop the spindle but the RPM shows a constant 0.  I can monitor the brain and the correct RPM speed is being sent to the DRO.
When I start Mach3 with the SmoothStepper I get the following error:

   Spindle-Axis Step Port= 0.  Valid values are 1 and 2.
   Spindle-Axis Direction Pin= 0.  Valid values are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 14, 16, and 17

I tried switching Step and direction to unused pins on ports 1 and 2 without success.  The Modbus will only run with Spindle enabled on Port 0.
I am using the basic 1024.set screen set.
