Tangent Corner / Homebuilt planes!
« on: November 04, 2011, 02:08:33 PM »
hello Guys,

Has anyone ever fiddled with the idea of a homebuilt plane... either from a kit or plans based?

All kinds of people are building this things... I imagine it would be a lot easier to do if you had access to a CNC hot wire cutter, cnc router and/or cnc mill.

Tangent Corner / Anyone here has EDM machine?
« on: March 01, 2011, 05:07:15 PM »
hello guys,
Im looking for someone that has an EDM machine that could manufacture a couple of parts for me.

This is a failry simple job, if you have the equipment.
Im attaching a PDF drawing of what is needed.

Just two parts are needed.
Critical stuff, both pieces should mate perfectly so maybe ground surfaces are required. The end of the workpiece where the conical part is, should be ground also.
material is plain steel for now since this is just a prototype, final products would have different outside dimensions and different material.

Anyone looking for some side bucks?
Pls let me know
Best Regards

Tangent Corner / Disabling single axis on G540
« on: December 14, 2010, 08:19:44 PM »
Hello guys...

I have the need to disable one drive from a G540 from geckodrive... the LPT port does not give access to the enable pin on the drivers inside the G540.

I was suggested by someone that I could short the current limiting resistor pins to be able to freewheel the stepper motor. Is this a good idea?

Tangent Corner / water saving device?
« on: December 11, 2010, 06:44:14 PM »
Hello Guys,
I stumbled upon this:

it is a device that is installed before a water meter, what it is supposed to do is remove air from water mains, which is billed as if it was water, and therefore reduce your water bill.

Haven't tried it, has anyone else heard of has any idea if they work?
they retail at about 150dlls

Tangent Corner / controlling mach 3 trough OEM software
« on: March 09, 2010, 10:50:29 PM »
Hello guys,

is it possible to program some 3rd party software to use mach3 just for stepper motor control and maybe some brains and I/O?

basically i want to know if it is possible to program a front end for a pick and place machine, and just send G01 commands to mach3 to move the stepper motors and monitor some I/O

Best regards

Tangent Corner / Using a PC to control a DL06 PLC
« on: February 15, 2010, 12:44:18 PM »
hello Guys,
When in peril I always turn to the knowledge of our beloved group.
I just need some insight on some thing that came to mind and was thinking of how to do it.

Imagine, in a small scale, a pick and place machine, that can go and pick anything from a 3x3 grid, there is a PC as a user interface, where the user selects which item from the 9 on the grid he wants and then the 3 axis + gripper goes to that coordinate and picks the item.

I was thinking of using a PLC to control the pick and place (DL06) with high speed outputs to move stepper motors. I was wondering how can a PC communicate with the PLC, i believe it is through Modbus RTU, and from what I have been reading you can just send a hex string trough the serial port to do this, is this right? for example:

1 06 0001 7D0 9A9B
where 1 is the slave address
06 is the function code to preset a single register
0001 is the #40002 register i want to write to
7D0 is the value of the position i want to sent the pick and place to in the x axis (2000 in decimal, as in 2000 steps)
9A9B is the cycle redundancy check

Am I on the right track?

Then I can send that 40002 register of value 2000 to step counts on the high speed outputs of either the PLC or an expansion module.

Can anyone point me to a good resource for this kind of information?
Best regards

General Mach Discussion / Driver Test Assumptions
« on: April 09, 2009, 02:52:00 PM »
Hello Guys!
I have a quick newbie question, its kind of newbie because it is a newbie for me.

This is the first time my Driver test graph is not a clean straight line.

Should we assume that if the driver test displays the SYSTEM EXCELLENT message in the pulse rating, that everything should be fine to work with mach?

The current PC I'm working on is displaying the system excellent but the graph shows spikes, even after some system optimization.

I'm attaching the test.

Tangent Corner / Countersink drill collar
« on: March 26, 2009, 07:45:20 PM »
Hello Guys,

Im quite sure i saw somewhere, but i forgot where, that there were some collars that fit on a std drill, that on a single operation you can drill and just remove the burrs.

Im looking for something that would fit a 10mm drill, and prefferable be carbide or carbide tipped, since I will be using this on stainless.
