General Mach Discussion / Can Mch run more 'professional' machine

I am thinking about transforming my old mill to a powerful cnc, i already bought mach3 for my hobby cnc, which is run with g201, but the problem is when i try to mill Steel.
I wanna transform my machine so i could use mach. Mach works fine with the gecko drive, and i think it would work fine with the g320, but i am not sore it will be strong enough.
Does anyone have any experience fitting more powerful motors with mach, and what kind of electronics did they use.

I know this will be a little of topic, but i dunno in were should i post this.
Had anyone got any problems with machine keeping up with the steps? I am using a gecko drive and a 1.8°stepper motor, but when i was cutting wood, it seems to louse a few steps.
I do not like that, and i think this could be solved with encoders.
I was loking on the internet and when i was searching for some cheap encoders the most cheap ones i found were 100€ - 250€ so that is too much for me.
Does anyone know were i could get some cheap encoders wich would have a resolution of 400-500 resolutions per turn, or is the most cheap way to build one my self?
i found a link on optical encoders and i think it would not be so complicated to build one?

I am  runing in to a bigger problem than i thought, i cannot calucalte my steps per unit.
I have a spindel that moves 5mm per turn. i havea stepper motor that turns 1,8° that means 200 steps. so that should make it 40 steps per unit.
i put my settings to MM. but when i try to move for 5 mm of mesuerd value the machine moves for 50mm in mach. I have a G201 and all of its settings are default.
When i tried to calculate the movment it was around 533,33333... What to doo? ia am loosing my mind

I know this is completley of the topic so plz dont be to pised of...
I have a problem and i dont know where to turn.
I have just bought a mach3 license and i am very pleased whith the service i got it 3 hours after a placed an order. I live in Europa(Slovenia) and this was my first order via internet, than i orderd some gecko drives and will be here in 14 days.

My question is, why can't i order a calculator(titanium ti-89) in us and get it shipped to slovenia?? i am realy busting my head over this...
i wanna do this couse in slovenia this calculator costs 266euro in us it is only -150$
1euro is 1,46$ so that is 388$

So if anyone can help me i would be grateful.

General Mach Discussion / A and B axes

I Would like to use A and B axes on my cnc mill, but i would use tham for the rotation. How do i specify that the units are not mm but °, and how can i configure mach3mill to give me a display for A and B axs like i have it for X, Y, Z, and 4?

I have just finish making my cnc 3 axis mill, using mach 3 demo verzion and i am about to purchase original soon, couse when i try and load a program to make something in 3D with 160 000 lines it only displays to line N1000 than it starts all over again.

Machine still isnt working as it should couse of my powering i only use 1 computer powering when i shoul use 3...

My question is:
Since mach can controll 6axis can it be costumized to control a robotic arm, and instead of a tool path display it would display some kinematic movements, i mean all i would have to do is set some kinematic equations? or is it alot more complicated, if it is does anyone know for any robotic arm control software (i cant find anything on google)

I have a cnc mill wich i wuld like to 'rebuild' from steper to servo motors, i am thinking of buying a gecko drive for brush dc motors. and now i am searching for encoders. I found these RM22and RE36, they are both nice, but i am having some questions, how do i wire tham up? they do not have only a and b signals, they have z, z-, a-, b-? what about these? and how does mach and gecko drive think about counts per revolution? it changes at 2500 it is 8129 counts, and at 5000 it is only 4096, and what about speed? when i am having a stepper motor i use only 200 step pulses to make a turn when i will be having encoder i will need 8129 or 4096 or is it something between??

Could somone plese help me understand these?

Hello my question is this, i wuld like to put more computer controlled featurs on my cnc, but the problem is that i dont have much input output pins as an option.
If i wanna use 3 axes with encoders it wuld take 6 outputs and 6 inputs and that is too much for 1 printer port, couse it has only 4 inputs. I know i can use another printer port card for just a few $ but it too have verry litle inputs if i wanna conect the spindel with encoders so that i culd make screews, and a coolant pump... is there any alternative (USB...)?
i wuld also like to make a costum key board, when my hands are filthy, than a tuch screen is out of the question, and ordenary keyboard is not to handy to use in the shop.

General Mach Discussion / how to fit servo mottors?

I have an old cnc mill machine. I wuld like to throw away my stepper moters and fit on it servo dc or ac motors i havent decidet jet.
I wuld like to put mach software on it.
I know thet servo motor needs 2 inputs, direction and frequency to tell it how fast it must turn. and an encoder givs to computer the information how much did it moved for real, and in wich direction it moved for real. When a machine have to make a sharp turn, it still have some moment and it still is moving in another direction, that culd be a problem couse it culd make a little mistake and if you doo a loot of sharp turns it culd end up as 1 big mistake(or so i think)
couse when i was using stepper motors it was jumping steps, so i figured that culd be the problem or that i wanted too mill  too hard metal.

My question is where can i read more on what output mach software gives i was looking over the manual and ther were detail info for stepper motors, but no detail info for servo motors, or does the step pin determin frequency and you just verify it with motor?
