General Mach Discussion / 3D Milling problem
« on: October 23, 2013, 07:11:47 PM »
Hi
I have a home built cnc router. This is about the fifth or sixth table I have built it’s a solid built table. It is mostly constructed out of aluminum and steel. I use acme threaded rod 4 turn per inch double start. I am using a kelinginc motors and drivers. The computer I’m using is a old a HP work station with a 3.8 GHz processor, 2GHz ram, windows XP, and a 1 GHz video card. My machine runs easily at 200 ipm.   The problem I am having is I can’t seem to run large 3D files. Small 3D files 3”x3” work just fine, large V carve work well. What is happening when I get well in to the carving my machine will plunge the bit too deep in to the carving. Even if I slow my router down to 60 ipm I get this same type of crash. It just takes longer for it to happen.
My suspicion is that the Kelinginc drivers just are not up to the task. Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

General Mach Discussion / vcarve pro doesn't see mach 3
« on: March 12, 2012, 10:51:07 AM »
I don't know if this is a V carve question or a Mach3 question. When I save a g-code file with v carve I cant get it to send directly to my Mach3.   I can retrieve the file and cut it, this is just a extra step.  any help?

Thanks in advance
Chris

Share Your GCode / Chucks Deer V carve engraving
« on: May 07, 2011, 11:56:17 PM »
Hi: all
I am posting these file for two reasons. First is a thank you to all the folks that have helped me in figuring out my hobby “CNC Machines”. The second reason is I would like to see how useful these groups of files are.  I have included two jpg files. Both images were created with Vcarve pro one is an image of the chucks deer engraving, the second an image of the tool information.
There are three (.txt). G code files these files work with mach3 and are meant to be used with a ½” 90 degree router bit. These G code file are what this posting is about. They are three different sizes of the chucks deer engraving. The tool and feed speed are described in the jpg file Tool info.  The engraving should look like the jpg image chucks deer when complete. The tool origin is center of image size with the tool just touching the material. I have also included a DXF file of chucks deer and a Vcarve file.
What I am trying to accomplish is to see if a CNC hobbyist can make use of this group of files. I would like to give other guys like me the opportunity to create v carve engravings without dropping $700 for VCarve pro.
The DXF image Chucks Deer was a created by me. I copied the image from a little drawing I found wile going thru some of my dad’s stuff after he passed away. His Name was Chuck if you haven’t guessed.
Anyone is welcome to use these files for whatever they would like.  I do not guarantee these files in any fashion what so ever. You use these files at your own risk. I would highly suggest if you try out the G code file on your mach3 machine. You should perform a dry run with the spindle elevated off of your cutting surface and your spindle not running.
Have fun let me know if these files were useful.

General Mach Discussion / Digital read out problem

Digital read out problem
I’m running a home built CNC router.  It is a typical stepper motor set up.   I use Mach3 controls program and  VCarve CAM program.  Everything was working just fine.  All of my out puts are right, motor tuning and steps are correct. When I design engrave a project with Vcarve everything comes out to scale. In other words everything works except one thing. The digital readout for my XYZ axis is incorrect. When my machine moves one inch the DRO shows it moving 25 inches. If I send the machine back to zero the machine goes right back to its original position. The only thing I can see that is wrong is the DRO is out of scale.
I don’t remember making any changes, maybe I did. The DRO just seem to be out of scale for no good reason.  Is there a way to set the DRO back to the right scale? Any and all help would be much appreciated.
Thanks Chris

General Mach Discussion / reset all defaults
« on: January 10, 2011, 01:09:34 PM »
I don't know what happened everything was working just fine then all of the sudden I started getting all kinds of strange D,R,O read outs. Everything works fine until I send a file to mach from Vcarve then i get all kinds of crazy readings. I have uninstalled a reinstalled both mach3 and Vcarve. I am still getting same results. Before I just wipe out and reinstall everything on my computer. I would like to try to set mach3 to its original defaults. Will someone tell me how to do this.
Thanks in advance.
Chris
PS all of my configurations remain the same
