I have been setting up a new 5 axis machine.

Along with determining Tool Length Offset and such, I need to determine the Fixture Offset Z Value for my rotating A Head.
(The Center Point of Rotation for the A Head)
This document explains the procedure clearly.
But I cannot figure out where in Mach3 to enter this date once I obtain the measurements.

Thank you in advance

General Mach Discussion / Tool path selection A Rotation
« on: September 22, 2018, 06:16:55 PM »
Hello

I'm trying to understand the Tool Path display.

My machine setup is B Head C Table.
In the Mach3 Toolpath setting, there is a check box for A axis and orientation choice.
Do I want A Rotation Enabled Checked (On) and Z axis checked (On)?
That seems like the obvious, but I cant see any difference in the toolpath display when I have G-Code loaded with C Table paths.
What does this setting get me? Show me?
The manual states little;
"The A-axis values let you specify the position and orientation of the A-axis if it is configured as rotary
and the display is enabled by the A Rotations checkbox."

I'm using Fusion360 and the 5axisMaker Post Processor for Mach3.

General Mach Discussion / Edit Button Script Window MIA
« on: September 15, 2018, 01:41:16 PM »
Hello,
New to Mach3

I opened the Operator > Edit Button Script yesterday, just to look at it for the possibility of editing later if needed, then closed it.
Today I clicked on the drop down menu Operator > Edit Button Script, and while parts of the User Interface started flashing (as is apparently normal) the window itself was not visible.
It is also not moved off screen, as Winbloz is apt to do on occation. (as far as I can tell, I'm a Mac guy and here I am using Winbloz7 32bit)
Meanwhile, the VB Script Editor does open on screen.

Any ideas as how I might find my Lost Script Window would be appreciated.
Thank you

General Mach Discussion / Limiting 5th axis rotation, new setup
« on: September 14, 2018, 10:51:04 PM »
Hello,
New to Mach3.

I have a new gantry style 5 axis that I am setting up.
It has a 2.2 Water Cooled Spindle.
As a practical matter, I don't need my 5th axis to rotate anymore than 100cw to -100ccw (if Zero is Up).
What I dont want to happen is for it to rotate 360 by accident with these water hoses attached.

I have Limit Switches on X, X+, and The Y Switch has to metal plates at Y and Y+. The Z has a Touch Plate w/alligator clip.
The Limits double as Home Switches (at least that is the plan)

I am confused by the Home Negative checkbox in Home/Soft Limits.
Does this mean I can only tell my 5th axis to either rotate 0 to 100cw or 0 to 100ccw? With the appropriate Home Neg setting?
(Otherwise the Homing could cause a full rotation if it started on the wrong side of Zero)?

Is there any other way than Soft Limits, to tell my 5th axis not go past x degrees, when Homing, Jogging or any other time that suits its fancy?

Thank you

Hello,

New member here.
I've been using LinuxCNC for a few years on the PocketNC, a desktop 5 axis with a small work area of approx 4x4x3.
I recently upgraded to a 12x20x5 gantry style 5 axis with a 2.2kw water cooled spindle.

While working with the PocketNC, I started a series of approximately eight sculptures.
Made with Mexican 1/2 & 1/4 in thick Royal Ebony (Katalox) laminated with 0.04in plate Cartridge Brass.
The finished cut wood is them stained with liquid Graphite.

Only one coin was finished before I traded up, so I am looking forward to finishing the rest.
