Mach4 General Discussion / How to execute MDI?
« on: December 14, 2021, 11:26:59 AM »
Recently I made the move from Mach3 to Mach4 with a hardware upgrade. Since the upgrade, I have been unable to use the MDI commands. I see the window. I cant type in the window, but enter and ctrl+enter won't move the machine. Am I missing something?

Mach4 General Discussion / Calibration Issue
« on: July 14, 2021, 08:18:51 PM »
Hello,
I am finishing my my migration from Mach3 to Mach4. I just got done with calibrating my axis (without backlash) and noticed an issue. My calibration was done over 1". The mill is moving more accurately than I was hoping. The issue is when I move less than 1" there is a progressive error (not moving far enough). Once the machine gets to 1" it is perfect. I am unsure if the error continues on the other side of 1" but if it does, I would imagine the machine will be moving too far.

Anyone else run into this?

SmoothStepper USB / ESS -> PMDX-126 and PWM Spindle
« on: June 20, 2021, 02:22:13 AM »
I am almost done with my mach3 transition to mach4 with a ESS and PMDX upgrade along the way. The final piece of my puzzle is spindle speed control with PWM. When I map 'motor on' in the ESS setup and in the Mach4 config, the spindle turns on and off. When I map 'spindle pwm' (there is no Mach4 mapping) in the ESS config, the pin is always 0v. If you are using PWM to control your spindle, I would love to see your ESS and Mach configs around these particulars.

Happy Making

Mach4 General Discussion / PMDX --> VDF Grounding
« on: June 20, 2021, 01:39:45 AM »
I am finishing up the transition from Mach3 to Mach4 with a PMDX and ESS upgrade. The last step before I can button things up is the Spindle PWM. With a potentiometer hooked up to the VFD 10v+, ACM and AVI, I can control the spindle speed. My original setup only had two wires going to the VFD (AVI and ACM). I connected the PMDX like the previous card to AVI and ACM with a 5v max.

Should I be able to run the CFD with just two signals?

No matter what I do, I don't think the power is getting ti the VFD because the two cards don't share the right ground. A voltmeter shows power at the terminals, so maybe. The VFD and PMDX are both grounded to the machine. The control signals are coming from the PMDX on a terminal block that has pc GND which is different from the shared ground mentioned previously.

Does the PMDX need to share a pc gnd with the VFD?

If you have this setup or could shed some light it would be much appreciated!

On the artsoft site I saw that Mach4 v2 only works with certain motion controllers. What I didn't find was a list of approved/preferred devices. Is there a link for that? Also I want to upgrade the controller in my mill as well. Is there a list of approved/preferred controllers for the mill?

Mach4 General Discussion / nMotion Drivers
« on: September 05, 2020, 11:55:24 PM »
Hey All,
I would love to try out Mach4 without having to do a full overhaul.

Are there any nMotion drivers for Mach4?
If not, what is a good controller card for Mach4?

General Mach Discussion / Auto Z Probing retract height
« on: September 03, 2020, 06:01:56 PM »
Hello,
I am trying to get the auto Z to work. I am unsure if this is a 2010 screenset problem or a general Mach issue so I am posting here. My mill travels down in the Z till it hits my plate then retracts all the way to the limit switch. It is supposed to back off a touch and then lower slowly again for a more precise measurement. Do you know what might be causing this, safe z maybe?

General Mach Discussion / nMotion Moving to Mach4
« on: June 13, 2019, 05:07:58 PM »
Hello,
I finally got my shop set up and running on Mach3. Now I want to move over to Mach4. My machine is a Precision Matthews PM940 CNC. It came with what looks to be an AirSoft approved controller (though I doubt it). I have attached the manual so you can see pics and the like.

The card in question is an nMotion Mach3 Controller.

Are any of you using this controller?
Are there any Mach4 drivers for it?
Would replacing the controller be in my best interests?

Thanks you!

Mach4 General Discussion / Anyone using a PM940
« on: September 08, 2017, 06:41:59 PM »
Hello,
After many years with a Super X3 and Mach 3 I am hoping to move to Mach4. I am waiting for my precision matthews PM940 CNC to show up. Are any of you using this machine with Mach4. If so, I would love to know your thoughts.

Thanks
