I have searched and read several post regarding this issue. Most have VFD in play which I don't. I have the stock DC motor on my X2 converted mill. I created a Index sensor using a hall effect and magnet. I am using just one magnet. I get a Index reading in MACH3 and I can get my spindle to turn on using MACH. My calibration however is bad.  My first question would be can I trust the INDEX reading. I have ordered a handheld TACH to get a second opinion but it has not gotten here yet. Peter had a good write up on how he got his calibration and I understand the pulley settings and how it gets the analog voltage from that ratio. So i followed this procedure:
1. Initially let the spindle warm up for 10 minutes running at around 50%
2. Initially set the Max pulley speed to 1000rpm
3. In Mach3 set the speed to 1000rpm and measure the actual speed. (say 3145rpm)
4. Enter 3145  into the Max speed pulley setting
5. Set the speed to around 50%, say 1500rpm and measure the actual speed. It will probably be low.
6. If the actual speed is low, increase the  Max speed pulley setting and repeat steps 5 & 6 until the actual speed matches
But my speeds were higher not lower and could never get this too be correct.

any thoughts?

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Newbie here GCODE 101 Help
« on: May 28, 2019, 11:55:45 AM »
Ok I am just now getting my Harbor Freight DIY CNC machine running and I have MACH3 running the machine, I loaded my first G Code file in Saturday and ran a test. It all seemed to work. I would like to know more about the G code. I have viewed many videos and understand the basics. Using MACH3 how does G52,53,54,55,56,57,58,59 work?
Fusion is putting in a G28 and I am reading this is not used anymore. What is G28 and why?

If there is a video or article that really explains this please share the link or if you can school me sure would be great.

Thanks

General Mach Discussion / Another C11G spindle Control issue..
« on: March 26, 2019, 09:27:24 PM »
I am hoping someone can shed some light on this. Just upgraded to the C11G...
I have everything else on this board working... BUT NO SPINDLE.
I have done just about everything...

I have a 12v supply feeding the 12volt analogue input. I have used the XML downloaded from CNC4PC. All I get out of the analogue out us like 700 MV ...

Has anyone got this working.. getting very frustrated..
Thanks

Sieg Machines / X2 machine mounting hall effect and spindle light
« on: January 11, 2019, 05:31:15 PM »
Ok folks I need some advice. I purchased a led light from eBay vendor. It's super bright if anyone is interested pm me and I will give you the link.
That said I have done the LMS belt drive and o don't have any room to mount a hall effect sensor for my Tach.

So I had an idea to make a 3x3x1 inch bracket to go around the bottom of the spindle. Cutting side.

The hall effect sensor I have has the pullup resistor in the plastic package. The unit looks like an oval.
So I was looking at mounting this between spindle and the column.
This will mean I will need to drill a 3/8 hole maybe 1/8 deep to glue the magnetic in.
Any issues with that ?
Also any helpful tips on mounting all of this.

Ok i am getting ready to add spindle control to my Harbor Freight Mill. I have looked into putting a REV function on it but cant really see why that would be a big deal or not. When i say big deal i mean using it... Are you folks tapping in CNC program? Tell me why i need the REV?

General Mach Discussion / Need some help with C11 board and MACH...
« on: December 27, 2018, 12:51:20 AM »
I have tried to find the answer to this but the search function won't work so here goes...
I am going to buy the C11G version 9 board which has 3 relays.
It shows that pin 14 controls the step and 16 the direction. So when 14 is on and 16 is on Relay 2 is on...
When 14 is on and 16 is off the relay 1 is on.
So has anyone wired these..  so in MACH..
I use 14 as the step which I assume is spindle on.. and Pin 16 on or off is the directon pin to turn on relays.
Can I use outputs in MACH to turn on or off 14 to control these relays.. or how have you guys been using them.

General Mach Discussion / Create a Button in MACH3 to turn on output
« on: December 19, 2018, 06:04:13 PM »
Trying to figure a way use or create a Button to turn  on an output. I have a spindle light that would be nice to control output to fire a relay.

Thanks

Ok new with MACH 3 and trying to connect a cnc4pc C11G Bob to my X2 mill. So I am going to setup pin 14 as the step pin per G11G manual. So I would like use the dir pin to control a relay to change direction of the motor .
My question is if I issue M3 or M4 command will one command make for pin high and one low?

General Mach Discussion / Motor tuning question..
« on: March 22, 2017, 01:50:02 PM »
OK I am a newbie.. and I just got my motors turning yesterday..
I have set the mill to SAE.. not metric..
I have figured up my number by  200 x 8 x 5.08
I am using 1/8 stepping and I have 5mm pitch screw. .
I was told that co.es out to 5.08 inches
So I figured out my steps per inch to be 8128.
I have DROa on my mill actual mechanical one not just looking at MACH3..
I told the mill to mobe G0 x1 y1
The mechandicap dros showed .100

That is off by a bunch..
Any ideas on my screwup..

Thanks
