General Mach Discussion / Mach3 will not load file

Newbie here, just got a 3040T with mach3. Mach3 would not install on my comp so i copied the Mach3 setup to my hard drive and then installed mach3. The problem is when I load a file to demo it doesn't show a pic on the job display, the file reads it is there but no display.
Am I supposed to buy a license? What am I missing? Thanks so much
