Mach4 General Discussion / Homing: X and Z work, Y doesn't move
« on: March 25, 2015, 12:38:34 PM »
Using Mach4 2270 and ESS.

The issue is the automatic homing. I can't get the Y axis to move and home. So when I select Ref all Home button, the Z axis moves to the home switch, the X axis moves to the home switch, and the Y axis never moves. If I manually press the Y-axis home switch, the homing operation completes successfully even though the Y-axis never moved.

The settings for X, Y, and Z are identical in Mach4 configuration. My work around is to change the Y-axis to Home in Place and that way the homing routine completes correctly provided I have manually moved the machine to the home switch location prior to starting the routine.

Any ideas why the Y-axis fails to move?

All other moving of the Y-axis via manual movements or Gcode control work fine, the homing operation is the only one that doesn't work.

Mach4 General Discussion / Auto back off home switch - how to change
« on: March 10, 2015, 06:03:50 PM »
I am using Mach4 2259 and ESS.

I am dual purposing my limit and home switches meaning 2 limit switches on each axis (3 axis total) and each pair is wired in series so tripping -X limit is the same as tripping +X limit.

1. The homing procedure seems to work well for the X and Z axis, but after it trips the home switch, I would like it to move off the switch slightly more than it currently is. Sometimes it doesn't move off enough and bumping the table or moving another axis causes enough vibration to retrip a limit switch. How do I configure this to move off the home switch more after home is set?

2. The second question is my Y-axis is not homing at all. When it goes to home the Y-axis, the Y-axis does not move. The homing procedure won't continue and complete unless I manually trip the Y-axis. If I set the Y-axis to home in place, then it homes it and moves on without issue. Is this a bug in the version I am using or a configuration issue?

Mach4 General Discussion / X-axis reverse not working
« on: March 05, 2015, 02:11:30 PM »
I am using Mach4 latest build (2255 I think), but have also tried this on 2238.

I want to change the rotational direction of my X-axis stepper so when I use the -X job it moves left and +X jog it moves right. I selected Reverse? in the Mach->Configuration->Motor, but the motor does not reverse it's operation. To be clear, when I use the +X and -X jog commands, it does move both ways, but I want to reverse the operation of those commands.

Is this a software bug, or I am I not using it properly?

If I cannot overcome this in Mach4, could I rewire the stepper motor to reverse it's direction?
