i have a new computor made of new parts (old stock ) i have it working but it has a nocking noise in the steppers it runs windows XP can anyone sergest any thing i can try to fix it

i am trying to change my breakout bored from parallel port to usb or Ethernet im confused the smooth stepper looks like a separate drive for the parallel  port  breakout bored am i wrong or what whats the best way to go ?

i tryed my back up computer y axis work x and z don,t all worked good on my 1 st computer tryed reinstall mack 3 no good but if i chack max nc -10 wave drive i can get movement push x+ 2 axis move so the PC knows its there tryed testing parallel port from youtube looks ok 3.3 v on pins 2-9   any help would be good thanks
