« on: April 12, 2017, 01:10:06 PM »
How do I set steps per inch with Dmm sevos ? Ive done steppers but not servos.
The gear ratio is 2/1 46t/23t pulley . Im not sure of the ballscrew size yet im still looking . Its an older Sharnoa cnc .

General Mach Discussion / SSR relay wont power down
« on: February 23, 2017, 10:31:26 AM »
Im doing a retrofit on an older  sharnoa a cnc  machine. I have Dmm Ac servos ess board w/ c62 bob. Im trying to hook my coolant ssr relay up . I can power the pump fine but when I go to shut it down it stays running. The input and load are connected properly . The input is the 4.95v from the ess the load is 220v.
Any suggestions?

General Mach Discussion / Fanuac Yellow top motors w/...
« on: December 18, 2016, 09:46:26 PM »
My boss tasked me with retrofitting an older sharnoa sdc20.
Ive built stepper based cnc machines. Never anything with servos.
He is a guy who wants to spendnothing and get everything. Im tasked with doing this as cheap as possible.
The sharnoa used Fanuc 6m motors . The drives and motors still work so I was hoping to hook up a motion controller or break out board and call it a day.
Can any one verify a smooth stepper board will hook up to these drives (link bellow) there the exact same ones used by the sdc20.
Any pointers?

General Mach Discussion / Post processors
« on: December 18, 2013, 09:47:56 AM »
Ive only been using cnc for about 4 months now. So I dont know any were around what I would like to know .
Ive been in contact with solidcam. They will be sending me over a post processor for 4 axis work , for mach3 .
Should this post processor work on all 4 axis machines with Mach3 & SolidCam?
How do I know if its proper and right for me? DO I just run it hoping it doesnt crash into my machine ?
I have no problem posting it publicly. If any one wants to test it out.
I just want to know if its going to do what its suppose to . Im not sure how to do that.

General Mach Discussion / Touch probe
« on: November 24, 2013, 11:49:08 AM »
Im going to buy a touch probe.
I was wondering if any one has used a higher end robe with Mach3 . Im looking into a Mitutoyo Touch probe. I dont want to buy it if it cant be configured with mach properly.
The plug coming from the end of it has 8 pins.
Ive searched the net and have not seen any one using a Mitutoyo probe with mach yet .
Thanks for any help

General Mach Discussion / odd motor movement
« on: November 02, 2013, 08:05:40 PM »
Im putting together a new mill . Im using a C35 BOB . CNC4PC ( Maker of the Bob) has an xml file to go with the board. I installed it into mach . All the motors move fine except my X axis. Its very jittery and jumpy but thats not the strangest part. If I hit up itll go up and if I hit down it will move down but sometime when I hit up or down it will go the complete other direction . Not always..
So what do you guys think?

General Mach Discussion / Backlash Variation
« on: September 15, 2013, 03:25:31 PM »
Guys im really banging my head trying to understand why I keep getting such a variation when setting up my backlash. I understand the process and I know Im doing it correctly.
Let me back up the other afternoon I was making a circle with my CNC. It cam out oval almost egg shaped.  Did some reading and most suggestions were that your backlash is off. That made allot of sense at the time. Ok I already did my backlash but I figured I would do it again.
So I proceed .run the table backwards set to 0 g0x.010 look at the dial and it says .007 I have 3 thousandth backlash do it again to verify I tried .300 cam back .296 on my dail then tried .800 comes back .7935 on my dial . Every time I put in a larger number a larger percentage of backlash comes back . Now that may not seem like much but over the distance of the whole table it will be.
BUT ..
This was the real kicker when I took all the back lash out of the table and proceeded to go forward it read a number higher than what I went . If I start at 0 enter in .010 I would get back .012 or .0115
Ive dissembled my whole mill tightened up my half nuts did everything I could think of even swapped From a DDI to a DI to a TDI all the me stuff .

General Mach Discussion / When touching off X Y
« on: September 04, 2013, 08:09:57 PM »
When prepping a CNC mill whats the proper way to touch off for X and Y before startup .  Do you but the tool up to the work piece (6061) or do you grab an edge finder and compensate 1/2 of it for the tool.
And were on the work peice / on the axis  do you usually touch off on your x and y?
Im trying to chase down why My hole isnt dead center in the work piece Its off on both X & Y axis . Im not running the part in metric and I am compensating for backlash . The hole it self comes out prefect . Now . Correct size depth .
Im guessing it has to do with the way I prep mach  prior to running the g code.

Well it wasnt exactly nothing. All day today for about 12 hours I was setting up read preparing getting everything in tram. Broke my starett dial indicator. (Turn the spindle on and forgot it was in there)
I ran the XY to there farthest negatives and Z to the farthest positive. Hit reference all.  loaded g code , zero out XYZ regen tool path.
The cnc rose to the top of z then brought xy to the farthest limits.
Im all excited  ...
It goes to the corner I specified in cam right as its bout to take its first cut the motors start pulsing is the only way I can describe it  . they werent event moving .001
System jogs fine I set backlash up today fine . If I tell it move .030 it moves that distance.
My head hurts I can really use some help.....
