General Mach Discussion / Setting Tool Height
« on: March 09, 2013, 05:02:02 PM »

I am getting started with Mach on a Novakon CNC Mill.  I am having trouble figuring out how to account for tool heioght.  If I input a tool height in to the tool table, touch the tool to the work and zero all axes, and then start a program (G code created with the circular pocket wizards) the head goes up the Z axis the height of the tool.  If I reset the zero and run the program again (without reloading) it doesn't go up again.

If I reset the tool height to zero after the first tool run, the tool goes down the length of the tool when I start the program (this could have been a disaster, but I was practicing with wax!).

To date the successful option has been to set the tool height to zero, touch on the work and start the program, but I'm not sure that this is the right way to go.

I've tried reading the maual, but I find it confusing.

Can anyone help?

Newfangled Solutions Mach3 Wizards / Slotting Through Wizard
« on: March 03, 2013, 11:29:16 AM »
I can't seem to get the slotting through wizard to work. When I activate it, the machine seems to wander all over the place.

There are several things winth this Wizard I don't understand:

1) There is no setting for English or Metric Units
2) There is no setting for spindle speed
3) The windows for the numbers are too small and the numbers can get cut off.
4) there ate two settings, wall thickness and the Xo  and Yo that seem to be redundant.

Is there something I am missing?
