General Mach Discussion / How to synchronise two encoders
« on: December 27, 2020, 12:01:30 PM »
Hi guys, just thinking about projects for next year and I would like to make a power feed (roller wheels) for a mitre saw.
The catch is that I want one set of rollers on one side of the saw and then a second set on the outfeed. Both sets to be synchronised as the timber passes from one set of rollers to the other.
Assuming the encoder was mounted on a roller-table, how can I pass the value of one encoder at the point that the timber reaches the second set of rollers?

Hope that makes sense!

Hi guys, I have been trying to setup Mach3 to accept an encoder so I can thread on the lathe using the ESS.

If I wire the encoder A/B to the Chinese 5-axis bob then MAch3 does not get any signal. If I wire the encoder A/B direct to the parallel port, bypassing the BOB, it works a treat. The BOB is over here -https://warp9td.com/images/BOB_Vendors/StepperOnline/ST-V2.pdf

Has anyone else noticed this and is there anything I can do to prevent it from happening? I have tried a 4k7 resistor from 5v to the inputs but it doesn't help.

Any ideas?

Jason.

General Mach Discussion / Mitsu MR-J2S stuck in E-Stop
« on: March 07, 2016, 02:40:14 PM »
I am stuck, I have a Mitsubishi MR-J2S-70A which I have just fitted as the spindle on my old Denford Triac mill, I have conected it up to a CNC4PC C41 PWM drive board nad have a nice 0-10v signal going into the drive via Mach3.
I have wired SON, EMG, Limits to GND on the CN1B socket of the drive along with the 0-10v and signal ground pair,  but upon power on I just get AL.06 which is EMG stop.

I have set the params according to the manual but there must be something I have overlooked.

All ideas welcome, Jason.

General Mach Discussion / To switch on or not?
« on: July 25, 2013, 09:03:16 AM »
I have managed to blow a DG3S 8020 drive with my 75v servo motors and since removing the drive I have just noticed that the resistance from the main PSU (now 48v) to the chassis of the cabinet is reading zero on the ohmmeter. If I disconnect the logic PSU (seperate PC PSU to supply 5v and 12v which is installed in the cabinet) then the resistance is high.
So, is this a faulty PC PSU or am I worrying about nothing?

General Mach Discussion / Axis moving on its own
« on: June 11, 2013, 08:01:50 AM »
Hi guys, I am in the final throws of getting a 5-axis saw working but I am getting the Z-axis moving on its own as I jog the Y-axis.
I have a star grounding system with everything grounded EXCEPT the power leads to the servo motors. Is this the next thing to try or can somebody please double check my config for an error. Drives are cncdrives DG3S and these are fed via an ESS board.
Thanks, Jason.

General Mach Discussion / Angular moves - choose direction?
« on: March 22, 2013, 11:47:49 AM »
I have a worm gear where the spur has a notch taken out of it (robbed from a sattelite dish positioner and the notch i nthe gear housed a couple limit switches).
I have used this worm gear to build a rotary axis but my problem is that when I move the axis, I need to choose the direction in which to move so as not to drive the spur gear off of the worm.
I am writing custom software to track the location of the axis and write the g-code, but I am not sure how to get Mach3 to choose direction. All ideas welcome.

General Mach Discussion / Power supply help
« on: January 31, 2013, 06:25:59 AM »
Hi guys, I have just bought a 1500VA transformer, 240v primary to 2x 33v secoondary, giving a rectified output of around 46vdc.
Now I get confused. I have assumed 1500va / 33v to provide 45.45 amps output, so I have bought a 50 amp bridge rectifier. Will this be sufficient or do I need a larger rectifier?
If I need a larger recrifier, I have only managed to find 3-phase varieties with 5 pins. Can anyopne advise whether these can be used single phase, or recommend a suitable alternative please.

If it is of intereset, I am driving 3x  DSG3 8020 drivers which draw a max current of 20 amps each but unlikely to ever draw more than 40 amps. Is there device which could limit the output from the power supply to 40 amps if this is an option?

General Mach Discussion / Smoothstepper issue or PC?
« on: December 29, 2012, 02:06:34 PM »
Hi guys, I have been running USB smoothstepper for 3-4 months with no issues. Today the computer gives me a blue screen with the message "multiple irp complete requests" and after restart, mach3 will only talk to smoothstepper for a few minutes before it times-out and then I get blue screen again.
Is it likely to be smoothstepper (or my wiring) or could it be a PC issue?
