FAQs / possible software problem???
« on: November 08, 2013, 10:42:02 AM »
recently my Z axis has been acting up. when I use the Z home, as my axis touches the home switch and stops and i have to reset in order to move it. it used to touch the switch and then back off enough to release the switch (X & Y axis touch and move off slightly). i have checked my switches, wires and plugs, since i use plugs to connect everything. all seem to be OK. i think it may be my software but I am not sure how to check  for proper fuction. my machine works fine cutting and engraving. my touch off pad and fuctions work as designed. i am at a point that i dont know what to do next.

General Mach Discussion / Which post processor
« on: November 10, 2012, 10:47:50 AM »
I have a DIY CNC machine I built from "Build your own CNC machine", I have Vcarve Pro 6.5 and I use Mach 3. My question is which Mach 3 post processor should I use from the list offered in Vcarve? I have just been using the G code which is a .tap file. It works but my engraving is a little off and I am thinking it's cause I am not using the right post processor.  Thanks for any help.

General Mach Discussion / G code stops part way through .
« on: April 28, 2012, 06:10:52 PM »
I use the free version of Mach3. I generate my G code with Vcarve pro 6.5. I save my G codes as tap files. When I load them into Mach 3 and run them, they cut fine then they stop for no apparent reason. I have tried 3 different profiles in Mach 3 as I had one profile go bad and not work. But even with a new profile my G codes only go part way and then stop. I am at a loss as to why this happens. Even the road runner sample G code stops part way through. Could this be because I am using the free version?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

General Mach Discussion / Mach3 parallel port drive
« on: March 24, 2012, 03:45:10 PM »
Ok I know that when I install Mach3 it ask me if I wanted to install the driver and of corse I said yes. now when I checked for the port address while setting up Mach3 I check to see what driver was install for the port and it said a Microsoft driver was running it. Am I supposed to install the driver myself? If yes how do I do it? I have tried the normal way of looking for the driver and updating it in my device manager, but when I tell it to go to Mach3 folder it wont change the driver. what now?

FAQs / Mach 3 set up for Limit and Home switches
« on: March 02, 2012, 07:30:31 AM »
I am so confused I think my head will explode. I have read and watched videos on setting up limit and home switches in Mach 3. I think I have it right but I want to confirm before I do something that fries my system. so here is what I think.

X-- and X Home Pin 10 (1 switch does both)
X++ Pin 13 (1 switch)

Y-- and Y Home Pin 11 (1 switch does both)
Y++ Pin 13 (1 switch)

Z-- and Z Home Pin 12 (1 switch does both)
Z ++ Pin 13 (1 switch)

E stop Pin 15 (1 switch RED)

Is this configuration correct? If not please tell me the right way to set up my limit and home switches.

LazyCam (Beta) / Lazy Cam Beta Limitations
« on: February 29, 2012, 04:40:54 PM »
I am new to the CNC world and I have Mach3 and Lazy Cam Beta. First is there a manual for the Beta ver? So far i have figured out how to clean up my dxf's. but how do I generate G code to input into Mach 3? I'm sure these questions have been asked a hundred times, but like I said I'm new to this. In fact my machine isn't even finished it needs the electronics installed, but while I am waiting for that I figured I would start to use the software I have available. Thanks in advance for any help you guys offer me. Enjoy the file

General Mach Discussion / Confused about software
« on: February 29, 2012, 07:51:27 AM »
I am very new to the CNC world. So new in fact my machine is not finished yet (needs eletronics installed). I am building one from "Build Your Own CNC Router". Actually the design is sound and functional. I am at the software stage of my adventure (lol). I have a cheap easy to use cad program called Delta CAD v.7. Is anyone familiar with it?  I have copies of Mach 3 of course along with Lazy Cam Beta. I also have Cam Bam. There are several free programs out there for this type of work. Most everyone uses Mach 3 as their machine controller so I'm assuming its use is a no brainer. My question is "What is the best combo of software to use for woodworking on a CNC machine. I want to do signs, wall plaques, object engraving, inlay work all either recessed or raised and of course parts cut out. I welcome any help with this topic either here or via email .
Thanks everyone.
