General Mach Discussion / Problem engraving - depth changes
« on: April 25, 2013, 11:29:18 PM »
I had a problem today when tracing some line work with a vbit.

A little background, I imported some .dwf line work I created in AutoCad. Brought into VCarve and created a single toolpath for all my linework(I was creating animal shapes on a wood board). The depth would change randomly from line to line, some lines are at the proper depth and others were at about half the depth.

This also happened randomly when I did some lettering in a different toolptah. I created a word in VCarve, created a single toolpath and the word would start shallow and progressively get deeper. Really strange.

I'm using Mach3 and a Romaxx CNC.

I'm thinking about reinstalling Mach3 tomorrow, unless someone has some thoughts. I have a ton of work this weekend and need to solve this.
thanks!

General Mach Discussion / Bad cuts
« on: April 07, 2012, 11:29:51 PM »
I just got a Romaxx and have had no success getting a good face on my cuts.

I'm using Vcarve and Mach3, a bosch colt and onsrud bits.
I'm getting chatter marks and can also clearly see each depth of cut.
I've adjusted the velocity in Mach 3 from 160 down to 60 and that helped a little. I've tried running the router from 15k-36k rpm and the result are the same.

I'm a newbie and a bit confused at what to adjust first as there are so many options.
I'm cutting profiles and pockets in 3/8" Baltic Birch ply with 1/4" compression bits and 3/4" maple with a 3/4" bit. I'm using bits that Onsrud recommended.

Help is greatly appreciated!

General Mach Discussion / radius different one corner of square?
« on: March 27, 2012, 08:17:39 PM »
Hi,
this is my first time with a cnc machine and just had my first project completed.
I made simple pocket shapes (square, triangle, rectangle), each with a corner radius of 1/4"
The problem is where the toolpath starts for each shape.
The 1/4" bit starts in the corner and that radius is smaller than the rest for each shape.
What's the best way to alter the toolpath to have start in the middle of each pocket shape?

Are there any reference books, etc. that people can point me too?
I'm running Mach3, Vcarve and Autocad.

thanks a lot
David

General Mach Discussion / Help for the new guy...Metric, I think
« on: March 26, 2012, 08:58:59 PM »
Hi,
I just got my first cnc machine(Romaxx) and I'm having a problem.
I am new to this cnc stuff so this may be a dumb question.
I created my drawing in Autocad in inches.
Opened in Vcarve, units set to inches.
I saved my toolpath through Vcarve, post processor 'Mach2/3 ATC Arcs(inch)'
Opened it up in Mach3, made sure my native units was in inches.
Configured Mach 3 per Romaxx.

Go to cut a sample and while it should be around 7" square, it's about 1" square.
I'm thinking there may be another metric setting that is causing the problem.
Any thoughts?
thanks David
