G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Milling alloy
« on: March 09, 2012, 01:21:48 PM »
Hello,

I have some difficulties to mill alloy because it seems that alloy is much more crushed or forged than cut.
I use a mill tool diameter=3.17mm; Speed 6000 RPM & F50; depth=0.8mm (0.5 for finish pass).
So, machine chips are not cut and after few time of milling stops the spindle (too much efforts - 700w spindle);
as the machine continue to move, the tool can break.
The machine has also a lot of vibrations and the tool makes a lot of noise.
I join a picture of the (bad) result.

Did you have experienced the same thing ?
May be i will be more inspired to try an other material; what is the kind of white material i can see sometimes - is it nylon ?
What do you use as synthetic material ?

Thank you for reading !

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Milling the table
« on: February 19, 2012, 07:17:10 AM »
Hello !
My CNC table is made of 3 aluminium profiles (size 30*150*1000mm). I put them together and make them as rigid as possible with a large piece of aluminium behind.
Despite this, i have measured a height difference between the 3 profiles in the X-Axis direction (0.5mm).
I think that milling the table is the best solution.
Is it a common way to get X-Y moves parallelism with the table ?
Do you have some other ideas ?

Thank you.

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Setting of edge finder diameter
« on: February 18, 2012, 05:53:14 AM »
Hello,
I have the R3.043.022 of Mach3. I don't know how to set edge finder diameter (offsets index).
If i click in the window i can't enter a value. I have not seen a way to specify this in the configuration.

Thank you for your help !

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / A question on Z axis direction
« on: February 15, 2012, 02:04:33 PM »
Hello !
I have finished with the mechanical part of my CNC; i have read the Mach3 documentation.
I have a question about the Z-axis (there is a joined file to explain the problem).

thank you !

General Mach Discussion / False Estop detection
« on: December 29, 2011, 01:01:14 PM »
Hello !
I am building a CNC; i experience some problem with inputs signals (ES, limit switch): Mach3 "seen" some bad signals among those inputs.
For example, The input voltage is 4.9v just behind the parallel port of the PC for ES signal & detection is set active to low. Mach3 seen an "emergency
stop request" even if resetted. All input signals on the CNC are shielded. I have found that it is the power block for the spindle that put some trouble (400Hz).
If i do not plug it, there is no more problem with Mach3.
I have also seen that the PC wired together the ground (sector) and the 0V on the parallel port - do you think it's normal ?
Do you think that the power spindle block can produces interferences via the ground & the 0v ?
May be, i need to use a filter on the 220V input of the power spindle block ?
What do you think of that, do you have encountered the same problem ?

Thanks & happy new year !!!

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Eagle & pcb-gcode help
« on: November 12, 2011, 06:54:17 AM »
Hello !
I have tried Eagle & pcb-gcode following example at
http://www.instructables.com/id/Turn-your-EAGLE-schematic-into-a-PCB/

I have generated the G-code and have a look to the result given by pcb-gcode and i can see problems with the toolpath generation:
there are some shortcuts !!
You can have a look to the joined files: i put a screen copy of the settings in pcg-gcode (it runs under eagle) and the result.
If somebody have some hints, they are welcomed !

Thanks

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / CutViewer
« on: November 12, 2011, 05:26:51 AM »
Hello,

i got a Rapid Collision detection by CutViewer but i see nothing wrong.
Can somebody help me ? joined screen copy of CutViewer with G-Code.
Does i need to define the tool size ? (already done with MeshCam).

Thanks

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / MeshCAM
« on: November 11, 2011, 09:00:41 AM »
Hello !
1°_ I am trying MeshCAM trial version; i have generated a toolpath file but i don't see anything to generate the G-code (no index or button to do that !).
Can someone tells me how to do ?
2°_ i volontary choose an endmill which does not fit with my milling (end mill tool diameter 2mm & depth 8mm & tool queue greater than 2 mm & mill depth on Z is 13mm: not possible to do without breaking the tool !). Then i produce the toolpath file: MeshCAM does not detect anything wrong !!?
3°_ It seems that feed rate units is mm/min or in/min with MeshCAM; what is the unit used for estimate the CAM job time - is it seconds ? (i expect!)
4°_ I do not make real try for the moment because my CNC is not achieved yet. Do you have some feed rate experiences to give me - i set feed rate 100mm/min in wood
  & 20mm/min in aluminium for a 1/8in milling tool at 5000RPM - does it makes sense ?

Thank you for help

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / GCode
« on: November 06, 2011, 09:02:11 AM »
Hello,

I am a beginner.
i am using FreeCad for a mechanical part and have exported .ast file and now, i want to produce GCode for MAch3.
I have tried CamBam but the resulting .nc is bad for Mach3 (he doesn't recognized some words like "solid mesh").
What software can i use to produce Gcode ? what are you using ?

I have other questions - can you see the attached file (pdf) ?

Thank you very much for your help.

General Mach Discussion / MACH3 & Wine Ubuntu
« on: August 13, 2011, 01:05:48 PM »
Hello,

I have Ubuntu 10.04 & Wine. I have installed Mach3 R2.63 and i get several messages : "unable to register components C:\Mach3\VideoOCXTools.ocx; C:\Mach3\NTGraph.ocx &
C:\Mach3\SMTX.ocx"
I suppose Mach3 can't find it, which package is involved with that ? Is it Wine ? What are the name of the packages ?
thank you !
