Sieg Machines / Sieg SX4 CNC Conversion
« on: June 28, 2012, 08:31:55 AM »
Hi All,

I am looking into purchasing a Sieg SX4 (Grizzly G0720) to do some hobby work, as the kids leave the nest I have a little more time for myself  ;D.  I was wondering if anyone could direct me to anyone who has successfully converted one to CNC?  I was reading the specs on the mill and it has a spindle travel of 3-5/16", I was thinking of using the power lift for the Z motion and leaving the spindle locked in the up position to help stabilize it.

Any thoughts?  All comments appreciated!

Thanks in advance
Chris

General Mach Discussion / KFlop and Mach 3

S-o-o-o-o-o . . . I was reading on the Dynomotion website, where you needed to know C++ in order to use their board.  Is this true if you Mach 3 with it?  Plus I have begun purchasing bits and pieces to begin my CNC Router.  I will post pictures as the building begins.

Thanks,
Chris

General Mach Discussion / Good Vendor for L Type Gearing
« on: August 09, 2011, 12:54:19 PM »
Hi folks,

I know this is probably not the place to ask.  I have been asking questions and I have been getting my plans together.  So my next question is,  "Who know of a good and reasonable (cheap, cheap goes the birdy! :D ) vendor that sells L Type Gears? (these use a size 75 synchronous type belt)"  As always any information is greatly appreciated and adds to my knowledge base.

Thanks,
Chris

General Mach Discussion / Type of Construction for Aluminum Milling
« on: August 05, 2011, 03:41:17 PM »
Hi Again,

As I said in my last post, I am a total, total, total noob here.  If I wanted to make parts out of aluminum, what type of machine would I need, could I build it?

Thanks,
Chris

General Mach Discussion / Most Recommended USB Controller
« on: August 04, 2011, 02:11:30 PM »
HI folks,

I am a total, total noob here.  I am a definite hobbyist when it comes to wood working, but I'm pretty good with computers and CAD (AutoCAD)and I have lots of ideas that I would like to see become reality.  So I decided I would put two and two together and jump into CNC routing/milling.  I've hit a bunch of forums and read a lot of threads and it always seems that people come to Mach3 as the control software of choice.  I don't have any computers in my house the have the p-port and as a matter of fact my printer doesn't even have one, it's wireless/usb.  They all run Win 7 (64-bit).

I would like to start out simple with a 3-axis machine to get my feet wet, but I don't want to have to shell out more money for controls when I eventually move to 4 and 5-axis.

So my question would be, "Who can point me to a reliable (somewhat inexpensive  ;D) external motion controller, either USB or Ethernet?"
