Hi all,

Today I had an issue when using the circle cutting wizard where the tool path ended up with a small "dogtail" cut outside of my desired inside cut circle.  Since I use a Tormach 1100 mill, I asked first at CNCzone and a user pointed out that there were G41's in the code and suggested deleting them.  When I did that, the circles cut just fine.  I didn't understand why they were there in the first place, so I came over here and did a search for the issue.  I didn't find that problem exactly, but a similar thing was happening to a gent cutting DB-9 openings using that wizard. The responses indicated he did have a problem with the cutter comp and gave him a work around.

In my case, I did not intentionally ask for any compensation, and in the wizard I selected an arbitrary tool number, that was not populated in the tool table, so I don't know why it was added to the code.  So, I guess my real question is, why did it show up, and how can I keep it from doing so?

Thanks

Terry

Newfangled Solutions Mach3 Wizards / Metric thread on inch machine?
« on: July 14, 2011, 10:37:14 AM »
Hi Folks,

Pretty much a beginner asking, so it it's especially dumb, please be kind :D
I want to do a metric thread mill on a Tormach 1100 set up for inch operations, but when I go to the NFW for thread milling (V286) it will not allow me to select MM instead of inch?
I can set the tool to MM, but if I continue into the wizard a pop up tells me it is converting the metric tool to inch?

Am I doing something wrong, or can I just not do MM threads on an inch setup?
Thanks
Terry

General Mach Discussion / Determing proper cutter
« on: April 26, 2011, 05:36:22 PM »
Hi All,

I am very much a novice, and as I attempt to learn, I've been trying to run the files that are already coded, such as Mach's roadrunner and the nice Wile Coyote file found here.  My question is, does something in the G code tell you what size cutter the author intended for these files, or are you supposed to figure it out based on experience?
Thanks
