General Mach Discussion / Industrial PC for Mach3
« on: November 04, 2013, 12:16:18 PM »
I am looking for an Industrial PC to run Mach on, something more solid than a standard PC.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

General Mach Discussion / Homing Speed? Can I change this within Mach?
« on: October 29, 2012, 05:06:32 PM »
I would like to dynamically change the homing speed as defined in this table?  Is there a variable for this?

Goal:  Home at a fast rate ( not real fast ), back off of home, then home at a slow rate.

Thanks
JH

Q1:  How do you increase the search travel for DoButton(22) ?

Q2: Is there a limit of the search Travel ?

My X Axis has 32 inches of travel.  If I use DoButton(22) to home the X, sometimes it stops before reaching Home.  This only happens when I am at the far end of the table.  Any Ideas ?

Thanks

General Mach Discussion / Dynamic Steps per Unit for fast rapids
« on: November 02, 2011, 06:20:30 PM »
I was wondering if anyone had ever dynamically changed the Steps Per Unit to allow for faster rapids?

This would allow you to have very high steps per unit for the accuracy during cutting, then dynamically change the Steps Per Unit with SetParam(ParamName As String, ParamVal As Double), perform the rapid move, then set it back.

I am not sure how you could trap the rapid moves to set this parameter, possibly change the post processor to generate an M code between rapids and feed rates ?

Thoughts on this ?

Thanks,
JH

Show"N"Tell ( Your Machines) / 1997 DYNA MYTE DM4800 VMC to Mach3 Conversion
« on: September 08, 2011, 11:52:50 AM »
We just picked up this 1997 DM4800.  All the parts are present however the machine does not fully function.  Tool changer has issues and Y thrusts bearing was worked on before we got it.  The way covers have been removed where the work to Y Axis was performed and there is surface rust everywhere.  Not to sure DYNA MYTE machines, however it has large boxed ways, monster ball screws, 32 x 20 x 20 travel, 24 ATC and weighs in at 11,400 lbs!

Going through the electronics now to see what I can reuse and what I need to replace.

Currently we are working on the coolant tanks and chip pans, adding new casters and Teflon sliders to ease moving them around.  Checking for leaks and repairing as needed.

We are just getting started on this Mori Seiki SL1 CNC Lathe to Mach3 Conversion.  I have had this lathe for about 2 years and now its time to get moving on it.  I didn’t want to dig into it until I had both the time and resources to dedicate to the project.

Not knowing much about CNC Lathes or Mach3 Lathe, I anticipate this will take some time for me to get my head around it.  My plan is to get some of the covers off and understand the spindle and X & Z Axis first.  There is a 3 Phase 2HP hydraulic pump for the Collect Closer, Tail Stock, and Tool Changer: not sure how this works or the theory of operation of these mechanisms.  Also is a Coolant pump and Lube pump.

Not sure what I will reuse yet of the Axis Drivers or Spindle Control as the lathe will need to converted to 220VAC Single Phase.

If anyone has information on these lathes, it would greatly be appreciated.

It is in real clean shape and was clamed to be functional when we got it.  Below are some pictures of the starting point:

I wanted to share this early design of an ATC for knee mill that I did several years ago.  There are several things that could be done to improve the design for speed, but the basic concept is there.  So I hope this might help someone thinking of doing something like this.

Keep in mind, this is a functioning prototype only.

Thanks,
JH

I wanted to say thanks for all of your help...  Below is a demo of my system fully functional.

Thanks,

PoKeys / IO Mapping looks off by one ?
« on: November 23, 2010, 05:45:35 PM »
OK, getting started on the User Interface for BP421 Project.  So I thought I would start with something simple like a couple of buttons.  Just simple Digital Inputs.

I had a button connected to Pin 1 on the PoKeys Hardware and configured as Digital Input.  The diagnostic screen shows pin moving but it is not reflected on the Mach Diagnostic Screen.

So, I them moved the button to Pin 2 of the PoKeys Hardware, the diagnostic screen shows pin2 as functional (just like with pin 1) but the Mach diagnostic screen is off by one!

Just thought I would ask before I waste more time...

Any Ideas?
