*****VIDEOS***** / Emco 220, Mach3, Windows 10 on a Surface Pro
« on: August 04, 2019, 08:00:29 PM »
Hi, Here's a video of my Emco 220. I've been running this lathe for over 3 years and felt that it deserved a facelift.

General Mach Discussion / Lathe Tool Turret
« on: February 09, 2015, 03:13:55 PM »
Hello Folks, I'm playing with a spare Emco 120 tool turret. I would like to change the current DC motor to a stepper motor. I have the mechanics figured out and even have a macro for it. My question is .... what axis do I use to run it ?????

thanks

General Mach Discussion / Entering Data Query Ports and Pins
« on: January 16, 2014, 06:18:30 AM »
Hello folks, I'm in the process of finishing my EMCO lathe rebuild and have loaded a fresh copy of Machturn... .066 version...onto the computer.

I've kind of run into a small annoyance inputting data in ports and pins. For example, I want to set output 5 to port 1 and pin 8, when I click on the pin or port box, the output 5 box changes to an enable box, instead of staying at output 5.

I then have to close out the ports and pins..reopen it and try again. After a couple attempts, I will finally get it. I've had the same issue helping a friend setup his lathe. One other thing, It appears that at times I have to close Mach and reopen it to save the data inputted.

Has anyone experienced these hiccups ???? Am I doing something wrong????

thanks

Show"N"Tell ( Your Machines) / Another Emco Lathe Project
« on: January 01, 2014, 05:58:06 PM »
Hello folks, In another post, I had rebuilt an Emco 120p lathe. The lathe works great, especially after getting the tool turret working :) But, I found that when doing a bunch of parts, the chip bin filled rather quickly.
It's kinda small on the 120p. I would have to empty it out after a couple pieces were machined. Another drawback was the maximum length of stock I can put into the chuck...which was about nine inches long.

That is all going to change, as I was able to acquire one of these.... An Emco 220

It has a large chip bin and a through the spindle capability :)

I have dismantled the lathe, changed a couple small bearings on the ends of the ball screws. Replace the lubrication manifold, readjusted the ways, cleaned and painted the sheet metal.

I'm only using two proximity switches, as that system worked well on the 120p. Here you can see the brackets I fabbed up for the switches.

As for the electronics stuff, I using the PMDX 126 bob and the PMDX 107 speed control. The spindle will be powered by a 2 hp AC motor with a Hitachi WJ200 VFD. The steppers are 640 oz-in  units for Keling and the drives are Keling's Digital  KL-8070D drives.

Here is the lathe almost assembled and painted....

I'm hoping to finish the wiring in the next day or two. I'm really hoping to be able to make some chips by the weekend  ;D

more to come....

General Mach Discussion / Lathe Parts Catcher
« on: December 28, 2013, 06:35:08 PM »
Hello folks, I have recently acquired an EMCO 220 lathe. I have an EMCO 120p that is running under Mach, but, the 120 does not have a parts catcher like the 220. My question is ...what would be the best way to "code" the catcher to work when a part is ready to be caught ??????  If a macro would work, how would I write it to open the "catcher" during a cutoff procedure ???

thanks

Hello folks, I finally have an actual working automatic tool turret on my Emco 120p conversion. Thanks to Andrew Barrows ETC board :)  You can find more info here http://emcoturret.blogspot.com/.

Here's a video of it in action.

General Mach Discussion / Mach3 Turn Home All Question
« on: September 08, 2013, 08:06:40 PM »
Hello Folks, I've been running my Mach powered lathe for over a year and have been for the most part  very happy with it. The one thing that has puzzled me is the my "Home All" button does not work. Well it does work only after I press the "set home x" and "set home z" buttons.    Is this normal???

VB and the development of wizards / Macro Query
« on: August 28, 2013, 05:32:08 AM »
Hello, I have what may be a really dumb question (I am a rank beginner at this macro stuff), but, when I use Mach's VB script editor on my home computer and run a macro ...all is good.

But, if I take the same macro to my lathe's computer and try to use it, I get nothing. Using the lathe's VB editor, i get a "Class is not licensed for use" error in the macro.

Any help will be greatly appreciated....thanks

General Mach Discussion / Proximity Switch Problem
« on: June 17, 2013, 04:18:52 PM »
Hello folks, I've recently converted a mill with newer electronics. I'm using a PMDX 126 board and the Ethernet SS . Everything works fine..except for the Omron proximity switches. These are the NPN NO types. 10 to 30 volts, 100mA. The issue is if I install just one switch..everything works fine. I move a piece of metal over the switch and the diagnostic input screen blinks yellow. When I install a second switch in parrallel the diagnostic input stays yellow.  I've tried all the switches by them selves and they all work...

Is this old man missing something ???? Do i need to use resistors ????

Any help will be greatly appreciated  :)

General Mach Discussion / Machturn Timed Event
« on: August 01, 2012, 07:49:36 AM »
Hi folks, I have an Emco 120p lathe that I converted to Mach3.  This is the one with the pneumatic chuck and tail stock. Being that it's getting older (like me), the chuck will lose it's holding power after a couple minutes. I usually stand by and give the chuck a quick shot of air and all is good for another two minutes or so. I could leave the solenoid on continuously, but, the constant hissing of the air is kind of annoying.

My question is, would it be possible to have mach3 control the holding solenoid, through one of the outputs, in a timed manner????? Such as, when the spindle is turned on, Mach3 activates the output every 2 minutes for 1 second.

thanks
