General Mach Discussion / Missing steps maybe?
« on: August 19, 2012, 03:25:25 AM »

I have been trying to mill out a printed circuit board, when i run it at 100% i get very bad results, the tracks dont look good and the pads are not circular.

If i reduce the speed down to around 10% - 20% i get perfect results.

I have only noticed this on PCB's when i done carving and profiles it seems ok.

Pulse frequency is 25k and is stable.

Using Aspire software.

General Mach Discussion / Parallel Card
« on: November 06, 2011, 04:56:11 AM »
Does anyone know where to buy a PCI Parallel Card that is going to work with mach 3.

I puchased one from Pcworld, but im having no luck with it unless im doing something wrong.

I have mach 3 looking on LPT1 ( 0x378 ) but in device manager the parallel port settings are:

PCI ECP Parallel Port (LPT1)
I/o Range BF00-BF07
I/o Range BE00-BE07
Memory Range FDBFF000-FDBFFFFF
Memory Range FDBFE000-FDBFEFFF

The change settings option is disabled for some reason.

When i purchased this card i think the manual said it shoud automacticlly change from ECP to EPP as it needs to. There is no option for changing it manually.

Thanks.

General Mach Discussion / Not moving correct distance and speed.
« on: September 30, 2011, 05:22:24 PM »
Hello
I have just finished my new milling machine and im having a small problem.

I have drawn a box in vectric Cut2D 50mm x 50mm for testing purposes and generated the toolpath and saved as Mach2/3 Arcs(mm)(*.txt). Loaded this file into Mach and im not getting the results i should be. It is cutting a box but only around 3mm x 3mm and running the path very slowly, so slow you can just about see each step of the motor.

When i jog the xy and z about via mach 3, the axis;'s move around quite fast but once i tell it to run program it is going slow and not the correct size.

I have used the "Steps Per Second" config button on all 3 axis and its not making any diffrence.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hi
Would anyone know what settings i need to enter to drive a new leadscrew.
The leadscrew i have purchased is http://www.worldofcnc.com/products.asp?recnumber=61 its the 12x3D.

Im about to test the x axis on a new machine im building.

Thanks

General Mach Discussion / Go Home
« on: November 08, 2010, 10:45:13 AM »
Hi
Small problem, while ive been setting up my new machine i have had to hit STOP a few (hundred) times.

Thats fine works fine, but then when i hit GO HOME Mach moves in the x or y direction first gets to home position then moves up z

It does go home, but i want it to move up z before it moves x or y.

is this a Gcode problem or does Mach control the Go Home function.

General Mach Discussion / Motor size vrs table
« on: November 08, 2010, 10:37:56 AM »
Hi
Recently purchased a mini CNC machine, it came with everything i needed to cut.

The size of the cutting area is 300x200.

I know this will be hard to answer without knowing the exact size and power of the stepper motors, but what size machine do you think these motors would move without any problems?

Sorry i cannot tell you what type/power of stepper motors i have connected but there is nothing on them to tell you. All i can tell you is the screw ( the threaded bar the x axis runs on ) is 250mm long and around 13-14mm wide

The reason im asking is i want to build a larger machine using as much of the machine i have at the moment to do it, keep costs down.
The CNC i purchased is great for what i wanted to do, which was machining parts out for RC planes, ( Balsa wood, light ply) but i have got the bug, i want to make some bigger stuff. 1500mm x 1500mm would do me for a bit.

Another question
The threaded bar that x y and z runs along, is this called a ballscrew?

Last question.
Does anyone know a UK supplier of this threaded bar (ballscrew?)

Thanks
Anthony

General Mach Discussion / Scale Question
« on: October 30, 2010, 03:39:45 PM »
Having a problem with scale i think.

Ok heres what i have done,

In vectric Cut2d i have drawn a square 100mm * 100mm and exported it as  square.dxf,
I have then loaded square.dxf into Lazycam and then generated the Gcode, saved as square.tap
I have then loaded square.tap into Mach3 and run the program

If i leave scaling as 1.000 (default) it will cut a square over 200mm, i have got it to cut a square at around 105 - 110mm by setting the scale to 0.400. This seems wrong to me, any ideas whats going off?

Please dont tell me Cut2d is no good, i have just paid £111 for it and the wife is going to kill me when the CC statement drops through the door.

Thanks
Anthony.

General Mach Discussion / Mach 3 Licence
« on: October 29, 2010, 12:59:51 PM »
Hi, First of all sorry if this post is in the wrong place.

My question:
The Mach1Lic.dat file, is it a 1 use only? 1 install and 1 pc..

The reason i ask is, i have mach 3 currently installed on a friends pc, and he will want this pc back at some point in the near future, forcing me to get a diffrent pc to run mach 3 on.

I dont want to use the Mach1Lic.dat file and have Mach3 locked to his computer.

Could anyone let me know where i stand on this.

Thanks
Anthony.
