Share Your GCode / Need G Code for a small brass cannon
« on: December 26, 2012, 11:54:02 PM »
Hi all,
I have a dxf file that I would like have the g code for.
I have not been able to find a CAM program that will produce the right code. I tried several for many hours and wasn't able to get anything decent from them.
The dxf is a small cannon for a model ship. Its about 2.5" long and .15" inches in diameter.
I'll be cutting it out of brass on a little sherline cnc if I can get the g code.
If someone can help me out I would appreciate it.

General Mach Discussion / Tool Width Setting
« on: December 19, 2012, 09:09:05 PM »
Newbie to Mach3Turn.
I'm a mill guy. They say lathes are easier than mills but I'm not feeling it.
The problem I am having is with tool width.
I have a groove on a part that is .160 wide. My tool is .060 wide.
My program will move to point x, plunge in x amount of distance and then move .160 along the z axis.
That gives me .160 + .060 for .220
Is there a way to tell Mach3 that my grooving tool is .06 wide and then the software compensates for it?

Quick question for a subject that I couldn't find in a search of the website.
I use Mach3 mill but just started getting into Mach3Turn. The image that represents the bar stock in the toolpath window is monster sized. I'm working with something that is .310 in diameter and it looks like a little stub on the end of the bar stock.
There is a setting Config->Toolpath->Stock Size that is set at 20 and is greyed out.
I'm using a demo version of Mach3.

Tangent Corner / Read the Docs comment

I'm having an issue with exporting a dxf file from LazyCam to Mach3. I've done some searching through the threads but haven't found the answer yet. What I have found is a moderator answering questions with "Read the docs" or "the answer can be found in the docs".
How helpful is that? Its not. People come here, ask questions, are redirected to the docs. The person reads the docs and get their answer. So now one person has the answer. No discussion takes place on the discussion board. On the other hand, if I'm redirected to the docs, and I can't find my answer, and I know that I'm not going to get any help here then I'm going to look at another software package with  better user support.
