Tangent Corner / engineer..circiut design help, automatic run/stop 1axis
« on: February 01, 2012, 11:44:34 PM »
I am using mach3, would like to make a simple circuit to do a repetitive motion on 1 axis, and eliminate the computer.I am using stepper motor, with drive. I have a variable pulse generator to control speed.  have home switch and high end switch. thinking of starting with a flip flop rs to send signal to drive 0/1.(cw/ccw) the problem is the tool needs to stop at the home position, then restart the cycle when start is pushed. I am somewhat familiar with components and ic's I  need a logical schematic. also does anyone know of a good freeware program for pcb design that can pe printed to a laser printer.. also may opt for a ne555 ic to go a specific number of pulses from home. then return to home..... any help would be appreciated, I love mach3, but am looking for a bulletproof circiut  ??? to use the machine without a pc. case you are wondering it as a machine to turn a tenon on a log. so fairly repetetive, and accuracy is not a must. the only adjustment would be the length of the cut, which I was going to just use a switch, but toying with the idea of using a transistor, capacitor and a vairiable resistor (or a ne555) for the length. If you have an electronics background and are willing to help, please let me know....... thankyou, Steve

General Mach Discussion / mach's rounding of measurements?
« on: April 19, 2010, 10:44:56 AM »
How does mach handle the rounding of decimal points I am looking at using a .375 pitch 26 tooth drive gear(belt) with a 20:1 reducer, with a 200 step stepper. anyways, any formula using a .375 pitch belt vs. a .200 pitch will result in a long carried out decimal number. does mach round up, I assume all is from home. so .375 x 26 = 9.75 divided by 4000 = .0024375 per step in full step. I am not using or going to use micro-step. so to go one inch i need to move 410.34058  am i correct it will move 410 steps with an accuracy of .0024375

I know absolutely nothing about servos? I am very familiar with steppers though... I am looking at this motor for $20 us which seems very cheap there is 2 or 3 available. .3hp 5000rpm 24.5 oz/in per amp 736 oz-in max 135 oz-in stall 80v bus. I guess my first question is .... how much is it going to cost to drive this? I looked on e-bay i saw a drive with no power supply for like $130 us. but dont even know if its the right drive? what do i need to drive this? and aprox. how much to make it work? what would be the aprox. conversion in a stepper motor so I have some idea what i am comparing? I thoought servos had constant torque throughout range, yet the stall is 135 and 736 max? whats the deal. I was looking at something to drill and or router with, I realize that is (5000rpm) high for a stepper to get a reasonable torque. any input would be helpful, because I would like to learn more about servos so nothing you tell me is stupid because i know nothing?  Is this motor of any use for anything, is It something someone may want, and what is its best use?

General Mach Discussion / homing to limit switch
« on: January 25, 2010, 04:02:16 PM »
Hi trying to set up the home switch, not exactly sure how to set it up? i used the g28 but it goes to zero on the display never to switch home I know It isnt set up correctly, I only have y home active nothing else. I had it working then I dont know what I changed, I was trying to get the display to auto zero after home. because it always went to the display zero. my switch is n/o my screw is about 20" and only want to go home and reset after each cycle. so if for some reason I mis-step or reset in the middle It homes and resets dro any help would be nice

I highly recommend the CMOS IC  CD4049UBE,  This 16 pin chip is the cats meow. If you want to convvert logic low to logic high, or logic high to logic low, or just want to turn a switch on and off, 1 pulse on.... 1 pulse off.... the pinouts are in line.... intput and output next to each other X6 ^ 6 IO channels. I have also used it to "clean up" signals works great for limit switches, and home made drive circuits to "clean up the signal" I used a 1k resistor to pull the input high/ or low with an input low/ or high. and visa versa. I purchased mine from Newark electronics> Was thinking  i might be off base, but , its so simple  I thought i'd pass it on??????

P.S hex inverting buffer cd4049 cd4050 I use the 4049 the tech i have is from www.fairchildsemi.com  document... DS005971.prf

General Mach Discussion / Spindle won't run, flashes yellow?
« on: January 11, 2010, 11:55:15 PM »
 >:(    I have tried everything to make the spindle work, the x-y works fine. I set up spindle the same way but nothing. flashes the speed for a second then goes yellow  nothing .I have spent all day on this and nothing! I do not have any encoders or switches hooked up so everything is pretty much off except the x-axis and spindle, set up,  I am trying to use a 1.8 deg stepper to run at about 100 rpm
enabled  and active step/dir. does mach 3 2.0 need encoders and start/ stop switches? whats the deal, I thought i disabled it all? What is the procedure from start to finish, the only thing i could find was how to use a relay going through output pins

what about direction and step outputs ? thats what i need! 1.8 deg stepper motor running at 100 rpm, no ramp up-down no dwell. no encoders no start stop buttons , just to make it run when i program m3 s100 run my g-code then m5?

what am i doing wrong or not doing? if I were to do another fresh install or reset everything to factory, what would i need to check-uncheck and change to make this work? after spending 10 hours on this I have tried everything and am at the end of my rope.

if I have to I will just use the x axis and do all the conversions and enter all the distances to make it turn, but that seems stupid. when m3 s100 is all i need?

thankyou, steve

thankyou in advance for your help.
